To the viewer that said " Maeda becoming a Kabuki actor" is worthless I wouldn't say so. A lot of the game is strategic and based on what you need at a certain time. Maeda gets his attack and defense upgraded to 7 (which is almost the max). That makes him better than other characters available to guard others in your group. His downside is that he's can only reach around level 30 max. That makes him at best cannon fodder in dungeon and boss fights involving the actual individuals instead of squads of soldiers doing battle. There are only a few characters that are really powerful both in stats and can be high level. The best characters are the hardest to acquire. Basically, they're magic users that can annihilate whole squads by themselves. Both are acquired late game if you get them and one is a large time investment that is out of the normal game path. There are a few archers that can buff/debuff your group. There's one healer I've found that's really good. There's a large amount of Samarai type units like Rance that are quite good and easy to get. The Ninja is useful early game and to disrupt magic users casting spells, but in my experience lacks much damage potential in normal attacks. Normal archers aren't very good except for the one that gets a special attack when you increase her reputation and get to choose an new ability. It's like assassinate for the ninja, but can be used twice during battle. She becomes less useful late game. She's only good early on. The Guards are less abundant. I usually use Liella once I get her and there's one in the animal state if you find time to fight it. I don't think any of that is a flaw in the game design. It's just forcing you to to make choices for different times during the game. I usually ditch Maeda at some point so I don't always upgrade him. It wastes new Rance satasfactions, but sometimes it's worth it to help get through the first few states you need to conquer. I definitely prefer to get Liella faster if I can though.

Rance is the best anti-hero MC for this kind of game since all the sexual content feels in character for him, even when it's rape. The kingdom management turn-based system is surprisingly deep and addictive. AliceSoft really has the market cornered on this specific type of game. If you're looking for more like this try Big Bang Age or Daiakuji. We should also be getting JAST's port of Daiteikoku eventually.

I remember when wee Cooky223 went looking for H games a million years ago and there at the top of every recommendation list... Sengoku Rance. What a legend of a game. Guess it's time to dump another 100 hours into this.
I was trying to get into the series for a long time now. Does the order matter and I should start with the first game or can I start with this?
The other games are vastly different. They're like standard RPGs of that era. This one is more of a strategy game. If you want to get to know all of the characters you can play all of the games, but it doesn't really matter. There are characters that aren't in the other games involved. This game probably has the most characters involved of all of the Rance games.
One recruitable character was TG'd in the past (the last screenshot). The MC has a bad end where he get's TG'd and runs away (no real CG).
Wasn't there a game similar to this? But it was like future base conquest game?

Damn. So there's no NTR? NTR lovers will be sad.. Art looks nice, i think i played the game with NTR genre that looked like this one but i don't remember the name
There is NTR. Just not a lot. The game is less about the h scenes IMO. It's just a good game. I usually don't like games that are like harem style with one guy and lots of girls. I generally like to see one girl getting corrupted by lots of guys, but this game is different. It's got so much that's good going for it outside of the h content.

All the other "NTR" events are bad ends or non canon events for failing at an objective, and can easily be avoided.

So do I need to get the Win download, the Update 1.07 Patch download, and then also the Dai Sengoku mod download in order to have everything?
And then is it just a unzip one at a time to the same folder or is there shenenigans with local time zone and whatnot.
I remember playing this a long while ago but it was a pain to get running with the local time zone change and mounting iso...

Now to figure out how to cheat a bit to not need to sweatlord to get through things. hmm.

I got bothered by that line as well. If I remember correctly, Maeda can be even more valuable than you say because the basic stat books (which are quite plentiful) go up to a maximum of 6. As a result, Maeda can be improved to 6/6 with very little investment before making him an actor, turning him into a 9/9 on attack and defense. It goes without saying that having a unit with maxed stats available relatively early on your first playthrough before you have access to house boni is quite powerful.
I consider it one of the better satisfaction bonus choices before NG+ playthroughs.
