question about the old chopshop mods!

I am aware most of them work with this, but would any mod requiring mr.shakys parts mod work? Seeing how you have yourself added lot of parts, I am not sure if I should try those or not.
If a mod required 'shakymod_parts' in DSCS it also requires it in SR24. The only exceptions are when the mod author created an SR24 specific version of their mod. I know that Daedalron, ZOM, and Yurishikane have done this and there may be others I'm forgetting.

Including 'shakymod_parts' is common for people using older mods and it works fine. You do end up with a larger number of parts in the game but this doesn't cause any problems.

This is 100% optional but if you would like to avoid adding more parts there is an MS Word doc in in the 'information' folder installed with the game describing how to update mods to use the native SR24 parts.

thanks for early reply! I just didnt want to screw up by adding more parts since you have already done fantastic job adding the missing ranks.

But didn't know people had made sr24 specific mods, time to attempt to find them! (or are they on discord?)

Edit: found at least Daedalrons SR24 specific mod!

Some are on Discord, that's probably where you found Daedalron's bots. Others are harder to find. Go to the original DSCS page here on F95Zone and click on the 'Mods' link created by Mr_Shaky, it's still the best source of mods for both DSCS and SR24. I believe some mod authors updated their folders to contain both versions of their mods.

Many of the DSCS mod authors don't follow SR24. They don't post anything here and don't post on Discord either. They may have lost interest or they may not like SR24. There are good reasons why players and mod authors may not like SR24 as much as they liked DSCS. First, DSCS is an original but SR24 is only a variant. Second, DSCS was text based allowing people to use their imagination like when you read a book. SR24 has images of almost everything and they probably don't match what people imagined. Sort of like seeing a movie after reading a book; sometimes you like it and sometimes you don't. Finally, DSCS was made for mod authors. It was intentionally missing stuff to make it easy for mod authors to have things to do and it is text based so mods could be created with relatively simple .json files. SR24 does not leave obvious openings for mods and to fit the game mods need images. This means you must find or make images and it requires more complicated .rpy files using the Renpy and Python languages.

In the end it doesn't matter why players and mod authors like or dislike SR24, there are lots of games out there and people should play whatever games they like.

Thank you for all the work you are doing in keep on developing this game.
I always liked how easy to mod DSCS was.
So adopting mods to SR24 and getting rid of the dependencies was never a problem for me.
Not having duplicates of parts makes it so much easier to keep track of things.
Knowing how to use search and replace makes it easy to even rename the parts if you (like me) have trouble remembering them.
Just need to remember to redo it every update.
Anyone not happy with the general in game images can just get the source version and exchange them.
Keep the names, size and file format the same and it "just works".
Json, python and ren'py are also not that difficult to learn.

Thanks for the comments! Of course the ease of modding is all Radnor's work. My only contributions are trying not to break things when adding new code and publishing the source code.

I agree with you that json, renpy, and python are not that difficult but people who are not familiar with programming have trouble with syntax that they don't understand. Miss a comma, bracket, or indent inconsistently and things go very wrong.

You're also right about being able to change images and text strings relatively easily but this sort of thing is not for everyone.

My goal with SR24 is to make it enjoyable for people who like to mod games and also for people who just want to play the game. Cheers!
