Relax, it's not that important or an emergency. "What happened" will depend on what exactly you mean, but I'm gonna assume you mean why is it different than older versions.
The story goes that the dev hit a point where it was hard to add new models because the models were 3rd party, and the rigging made it difficult to make animations in a timely manner which was a problem because the models had their own skeletons and rigging that meant they needed animations made specifically for them and they couldn't use existing animations. Couple that with the increasing complexity of the game since, as the dev admits, it was not put together very well and he did not know enough to be able to fix it and some stuff just couldn't be fixed. Then the dev disappeared for a while.
When the dev came back, the plan was to start over from scratch, making the models instead of using 3rd party assets, and doing a better job of coding and implementing features after having spent time learning game development. The remake is what is now featured, but you can still download the last old version if that's what you wanna play.
