i unironically liked the free roam, especially in the blackmail route. it always feels like you can miss out on something, which adds to the main theme, you know. too bad they moved to ren'py, now it will be just ctrl jumping straight to h-scenes "game" for the vast majority of players. personally to me ntr visual novels feel like just observing someone getting ntred, so it's ntr squared, but with a minus, i think. i neither feel like i play the game nor i can immerse myself in the story as a participant, really. but i guess it's just me, since practically everyone's happy with this change.
I'm sure there's a way to do it in RPGM but the down time in the current format is insane. It's way too much of a chore for a porn game.

bro, those are called "porn games" not "powerpoint porn presentations". how can you call a piece of software "a game" if it won't even let you take a minimal interaction apart from making a single choice to select one of three major routes? why even bother learning coding and tinkering with game engines if people see walking from scene to scene as a chore?

It's just there for the sake of it, you have to follow the walkthrough to get content you want. It's just the same thing with extra steps but the extra steps are independent of what's happening. That is why it is a chore, there is no connection between gameplay and story. Again, if it was a true free roam RPG, that would be fine, but the gameplay is linear once you choose a path.

I agree that Ren'Py lacks elements of gameplay in its default state, hopefully dev is able to make it palatable.

Compare the "interactive" aspect of this and something like Karryn's Prison, it's completely possible to make a good game centered around porn and not have it be a clickfest with zero stakes. The major criticism with Shadows of Desire has always been that the dev planned out a ren'py VN then made it in RPGM for no apparent reason.

yeah, seems reasonable. but "have to follow the walkthrough" is something i didn't get. if it's so linear, how's that even possible? i know that hitting red options in dialogue to get to the blackmail path might seem not that obvious, but at least game popups state that not paying attention and not giving compliments to the girl get her to the cheating path while "making friends" with a black guy leads to the cuck path literally in the beginning of the game. why would one need a walkthrough? i'm not trolling, i genuinely don't understand.

yes, we have a porn game which is a relatively good game by itself. truly we have no standards of making good porn games, where every single game aspect and stat plays a bit of a role in plot and porn parts of the game and also it's all good and shiny. but i doubt it means that so-called porn games should have no gameplay at all. "if you can't, don't even try" is not an attitude that makes... anything good? just mediocre. it's just about playing it safe. for pussies, if you please.

I also enjoy these elements that are in RPGM games and if the game is designed like that from the ground up it should remain so unless the DEV has a genuine desire to change engines rather than just to satisfy people who simply want something simpler

you just have to look at the movie industry where studios get involved in the creative and direction process to appease masses who dislike certain elements and force change

most of the times not all i'll admit these lead to movies that are choppy , disjointed and ultimately less good than if they had stayed well out of it

IF they DEV thinks the change of engine is for the better than all well and good , but if not in my opinion he should not change it

Shamantr really doesn't have to change much. Just needs to keep it simple with RPG elements. Problem the Dev is running to is that is doing too much and to vastly different. When you play a RPG game, even with different paths, with different choices, it all leads down some over arching or over lapping over others to keep some semblance. Here in SOH, the three path branch off completely differently, making each character completely different each route, items and game mechanics completely different in each route, it become inconsistence. Story no longer connects. Game play no longer connects. Characters no longer connects. Now all you want is the scenes.
