Melissa catches on that her BF is possibly cheating on her combine with her blackmail money gives her motive to cheat along side that her character is kind of slutty. She eventually gives into it and enjoys the sex as well completing the full circle of NTR. At least to me the girl must also enjoy it or it not NTR. It be just plain rape or I don't know blackmail or tying to mind break. For a "SIDE" character that is actually layer out quite nicely. Now slow burn is good if there are rewards along the way to keep you entice and string you along. However a there must be a big pay out or else it ruins the overall experience.
