So has anyone found a reliable method for getting this working through wine? I recently had to migrate to Linux and so far SHS is the only thing giving me problems. Haven't figured out how to get it working.
There is some comments in the crack thread about getting the crack to work in Linux, might be there.

Awesome thanks! Finally figured it out with Lutris.

Just adding this here in case any other Linux newbies are having troubles Should work on any distro so long as you have Lutris and Wine installed.

1) Click the + in the top left to add a game, then select "Add locally installed game"

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

2) Game info tab: Set the runner for Wine

3) Game options: Fill the "Executable" field with the path to the .exe.

4) Runner Options: Set the wine version to "GE-Proton (Latest)", and then add version.dll as an override with the values n,b. (n stands for native and b stands for built-in, if you're curious)

5) Save. Should be able to play now.

Greetings,

How are you all doing? Here, the work continues at full speed. We know that Episode 17 of Shale Hill Secrets ended up taking a bit more time than anticipated. We had some personal issues, but everything has been resolved, and very soon, we will bring more news about the release date.

Shale Hill Secrets
Speaking of SHS, the episode is practically finished. We are already in the polishing stage and finalizing the script. Next week, we promise to have updates regarding this highly anticipated release!

Streaming For Love

Speaking of our other project, Streaming For Love, we decided to hold off on releasing the third episode until after Shale Hill Secrets is finished. We understand that your focus is currently on Episode 17 of SHS, so we took the opportunity to touch up some aspects of this project.

As we mentioned earlier, we are using this game to update several tools in our engine, adding features that make the game more immersive and fun. For Episode 03, for example, we are preparing a big surprise related to the sex animations that we hope you’ll all enjoy!

That's it, folks. We just wanted to give you all a quick update on what’s going on. Thank you for your partnership and trust, and stay tuned!

The Love-Joint-Team.

Really enjoying this game. But man, do I have some thoughts. One thought in particular. Alexis. That was bar none one of the most wasted potential characters in just about any game I've played. This game set her up as one of the most interesting character arc developments I've seen in awhile. She was shallow and single-minded and dumb and aggravating all at the same time. Then she goes through a horrific experience and that begins a deep fundamental change in who she is. One she didn't understand, but made huge attempts at trying to reconcile who she was and the new awakening she had experienced. She immediately assigned the only good person she knew to be her Sherpa, the MC. She latched on to him and without question made him her new BFF. She filled the silence around our MC with her silliness, but there was a definitive sweetness to it. She had the potential for some amazing growth and she actively wanted to grow. She didn't know why, but her old life was no longer acceptable to her. She was actively seeking to be a better person and even used the philosophy club to find some kind of meaning to her recently discovered desire to be something more than she was. I was never so intrigued in a redemption arc as I was with hers. Then she drops off the face of the earth for awhile and then the MC simply tells her to go be a raging slut to prove her new "goodness". I can only guess that the writer decided he was tired of her arc or whatever. Instead of at least giving the MC some kind of choice on how to help her, the writer suddenly decides, nah, fuck her awakening. Fuck her attempt at finding meaning. Let's just end this character's potential in the worst goddamn way possible. Man, I was bitter as hell after that. I mean, I'm still going to finish out the game and I had no intention of making her the new "best girl". But I was really emotionally engaged at her blossoming new persona and genuinely wanted to help her reach her potential. What a horrific waste.

Maybe a weird question, can the assets be watched without actually play the game? Or are they packed in a weird format? I don't want to run something that doesn't work natively in my OS, but the renders look good and I will like to take a look at them without actually playing the game.

if you are linux user then you can play this under wine.

anyways images are in .dat format so easiest way is to try open those in any image software but that might not work.

They are compressed with zlib, but yeah they can be sniffed pretty easily. Thanks for the info. There is also a huge json, I don't know if that can be transformed easily in a ren'py file lmao.

Hmm after looking a bit more I don't think it contains all the text, probably it's inside the data.win file that seems to be in IFF format. But I don't care enough to dig further.

In this game, is the sandbox removed after a while, or does it continue, even in the new versions?

Not very easy, it is some sort of compiled bytecode

Text strings are in the ch*_strings.json while compiled code is in the ch*_compiledCode.vne3

Offzip is what was used until it was implemented in UAGC to decompress them to be compressed.

Nope, just the usual: running oggenc over the DATs in 'files/audio' and (zlib-)deflating those residing in 'files/images'. Then having an appropriate tool deduce file types of the latter by their respective headers for crunching them without switching formats (engine limitation – I used mozjepg and pngquant directly). Like last time, I skipped the unobfuscated PNG animations in 'data' as I know some engines (Why, hello there Tales of Androgyny!) are very anal about their texture atlases and I have no intention of playtesting this one fully. Hope this helps!

I am now at Chapter 3 and not sure whether to continue anymore, would really appreciate if folks who have reached further can advise me...

So far the MC perpetually has some sort of inner dialogue on whether to do this do that and then proceeds to do exactly the dumbest / immoral thing he said he doesn't want to do. It reminds me of My Best Deal - MC gets a "superpower" then goes on and on whether to use it and instead of giving MC an advantage, makes MC look like a moron.

In two minds about it, I kind of like the LIs because the girls are smart and have a mind of their own instead of just being fuck toys, but the MC really feels like a retard in front of them.

Understand this story is very long, so I guess my question is does the MC develop into a more mature and smarter person as the game progress? Or is this self-whining going to continue all the way?

he does get smarter but still.
LOL I'm already skipping a lot by Chapter 2, don't think I can pull through any further unless MC changes a lot.

Game ain't for me though the LIs do look very interesting...

Zlib is a compression algorithm. There is a wikipedia article about it. To unpacked them I wrote a small java program. It wasn't hard, I think there are several libraries in other languages as well. I took me just a few minutes of googling and writing the program.

I don't know what is UAGC, Google just returns University of Arizona Global Campus :) If you are in the dev team of the game, good luck with it, I just wanted to take a look at the renders, nothing else. The number of images is really impressive. There is a lot of effort invested here.

I'm talking about the base64 encoded scripts in the .vne3 file
Also it is possible to get the original filename of resources
