There is also the rather significant events of the past few years. A lot of games soared in development time and effort over the past few years because people had nothing but time to work on them for a while. Once everything went back to normal almost every single VN, fanfic, and any other kind of fan work I followed hit the breaks hard as people went back to what they were doing beforehand. Very few kept up the same schedules. Some tried to keep going with both for a while and those are mostly dying in the arse now too. Seems people misjudged the amount of time they could dedicate to what amounts to a hobby for most folks.
