He does not look NBA material...just saying MC looks short
Guards rarely exceed 6'4" (even though more and more point guards are getting close to 2 meters tall—Doncic, Cunningham, etc...), and in the story, the MC is between 6'1" and 6'2". It's tricky to accurately show height differences, especially when it's just a matter of a few inches. For example, in my DAZ3D models, Travis is taller than the MC, but it doesn’t show that much because the camera angles often make them look about the same height.

But saying the MC is short is a stretch—sure, in the NBA he'd be considered on the shorter side, but compared to the general population, he's probably taller than 90% of people.

Yuki Kawamura, 5'8"-ish or so.
Point being, you can basically be whatever fucking height as long as you know how to play your spot.
And we can point to dozens in just the G League who are equally talented and will never be given the chance due purely to height. Mac McClung, you know, the dude that's won the last 3 dunk contests, is 6'2" yet doesn't have elite length. Despite becoming an efficient 3 level scorer these days, he'll never make it in the NBA and he'll never even be given an actual opportunity. The most talented pg in this years draft is 6'1" and is projected to fall 10-20+ draft positions behind the next best while being a raw talent that is 6'8" and may not have the quickness to defend at the next level.

Point is, you can be supremely talented, have won the G League MVP, compete and beat the biggest names in the NBA during summer pickup games routinely, and you will never be given an opportunity in the NBA if you aren't supremely talented AND have length that more than makes up for your lack of height. Mind you, this is a league where guys like Damien Lillard and Chris Paul, who are 6'2" and 6'1" respectively, have been told their entire careers that they're undersized. A lot of guys are going to mid-majors or just flat out small schools purely bc they aren't being recruited bc 6'3" is the minimum ideal.

This is why small guys are given the Rudy treatment in the NBA.

Great, all of this doesn't exactly matter because being short doesn't make it an impossibility to be drafted in the NBA, which means that the MC more than had a solid chance of being drafted given that he was apparently Gods' gift to basketball.

As long as there's a chance, the premise still works, that's the entire point.
