Well after some sleuthery I noticed this image. If you use that magnifying glass you will notice a little something on the bottom left corner. The dev tried to hide it but couldn't keep me from finding the truth.

Yes, while we're in Early Access, the story will be mostly linear, with some small "Do I want to go there or not" forks, but I'll add more options in the release version.
