EDIT: The link in the OP has been updated, it has adult content now.
There is sex in the game but the version in the OP doesn't have the adult patch applied.
You can download the adult content patch from Otaku Plan's Shikokushi site at the bottom of the page.
The shady uninstall.exe can also be removed from the game's folder without effecting the game, the version I found elsewhere doesn't have that file.

I see we have both male and female protag tags, does that mean we get to choose player characters gender?
There's apparently a huge line for downloading the patch, so i guess I'll have to wait for a while, unless someone shares the patch here?

Depends on who you ask. To me it is, I hate that series.
I doubt it; there are probably just sceneiros where you play from the perspective of the girls.
one could argue that pokemon conquest is part of the series that was the first "about conquest of Japan"

No, but it is the best game about the conquest of Japan. And is just a seriously good War Game in general.
