Funny story, when I first played this game I got it from some other website that had clearly not been updated in ages, so I got a what I believe is one of the earliest public builds of the game (7.02, from 2017). Only later did I discover this place and download the current version.

Thing is, these are not pre-release images. This is how the scenes looked like when the game released and, for whatever reason, Alan felt compelled to retroactively change them in later updates. I've known this for a while, I've especially noticed the different scenes for sphynx, but I never really considered it noteworthy.

Thankfully I kept the older version when I downloaded the newer one years ago, and so I can still see these beauties. Here's that Lampas scene on my version (which has an English translation patch!):

The changes for Sphynx were also pretty noticeable. I think many other designs were reworked in later patches, though, just in more or less subtle ways. For example, in the current patch Iron Maiden's resting sprite is pretty different from the original sprite, which you can still see from the loss selection screen

I can kinda see why he changed some of these (Sphynx's old designs were awkward in some ways). It's cool that this game got effectively remastered for free, though the original scenes are interesting in their own way.

Could you share this translated version of the game...? Thank you very much.

Consider it a Christmas gift.

I've also included a full(-ish) save that is compatible with this game version (which goes up to and including EX1!). If you want to check which scenes are different you can also check in graphics --> pictures. So far I've found differences for Lampas, Iron Maiden and Sphynx, but there are probably more.

Listen I want to preface by saying the developer is awesome and I love his work and the time he put into shrift. All I wanna say is I'm surprise I went away for a few years wondering when we'd get the full compendium to fight that superboss black fox or whatever, and came back to see it's still coming soon

I hope the dev is ok tbh, I remember going 'shrift 2? a sequel? it sounds cool. im not really interested in level drain i dont know how he'd make that work', and then like 3 or 4 years later, I try shrift 2 and it's great! Honestly, the dialogue reminds me greatly of shrift 1 and I think that's amazing

I feel like the developer must be getting extremely burnt out, which is sad. I can only /assume/ it's burn out because his progress on shrift 1 and 2 seem significantly slower. It felt like he really started hitting his stride near the end of shrift 1 and during the EX's, or at least it feels to me around then his motivation was highest and he got into the groove

and by the way, this is no serious or harsh critique I like shrift 2 I think it's awesome it just feels.. really small?? maybe I'm tweaking or crashing out and am just in the wrong

but yeah, I'm a bit surprised that hidden boss hasn't come out yet, and I'm a bit surprised by how small shrift 2 seems to be. I get shrift 1 was in development for like, 8 years or 9 years and shrift 2 has only been in development for, presumably 4 or 5 years? Though.. I do hear that some people say shrift 2 is bigger than it needs to be /already/

sorry, I suppose this is a bit of a crosspost, since I'll share my thoughts in the shrift 2 forum as well. Still, I hope the developer is alright and takes a break if he needs to do so; I sincerely hope he doesn't go through with using that ai model more, like the demo he released recently for shrift 2

Looking back to the screenshots and my thoughts with a friend when I first did the geno route and wow, that was terrible. I wish it didn't exist. From a literary standpoint I think it's great, I think the writing is good.

Though, further on that, it sure felt awful in every way to do a genocide after a true mercy run. I think it's great, because the idea is that each new game is another world, with living demons, and you basically culled a world of any semblance of happiness it would've had.

Lampas's scene hurt the most, followed by Sphinx's. I'm glad I'll never do another genocide run in shrift. I also like and appreciate the quote Reina says:

"You're strong..."

"No matter how deep the sin, humans can redeem themselves..."

Meep... Genocide was disappointing as hell, what else you can do? Enjoy sickly sweet endings! I almost threw up from happiness, and believe there'll be more. Unfairy, quitey so.

I'm having major trouble at the Lampas' dark room. I've literally set up a macro to auto mash my movement keys for it yet it still can't escape the charm effect. I've noticed other people having this issue as well in the forum. Even capping the game's framerate to 30fps didn't fix this problem. It's physically impossible on my end.

This was also tough for me until I saw this quoted post, that trick worked for me. I encourage you to persist with it, the game is very good and it's the only actual mechanical challenge, everything after it is pure strategy.
After like 1 hour i managed to not get hit even once and got past it that was possibly the most annoying mechanic i have ever seen in a rpgm game, the required clicks should be 5x less at least. The trick is to step on the thing and then hold the opposite arrowkey, it moves you one step so you are out of range of the gas.

I believe you can't escape being lured in after stepping into a trap or inhaling funny gas, even if game is telling you to mash movement keys.
Don't step into a viny trap (makes escaping during fight harder), try to encounter as less lampas as possible and always run away from fight.
That's the only way. Consider it as endurance test where the key is to take as less damage/lust as possible.

You CAN escape if you're bound by only one of them (vines OR pollen), but if it's both of them you're fucked. literally and metaphorically. I think you can just barely run away from the first fight even if you get caught by both (I remember I did manage to escape a fight, but I don't remember if I only got hit by one thing or not), but getting caught a second time will absolutely result in going to hell or getting a game over.

It sounds like we were playing different games, lol.
I was never able to escape from being lured in but was able to run away from any fight, taking a bit of unavoidable lust damage. Considering there was a limit of lust I could take before the next encounter would've been a game over for me, the only thing I could do is choose the least dangerous path in order to take as less unavoidable lust damage as possible.
But if you are unlucky it may not work, since run away chance is not 100%

Hey so I'm following the guide and am trying to get the unlock for Mother Rabbit, but I'm not seeing her (pretty sure she's meant to spawn in that courtyard between buildings right before you move onto 2-2). Am I bugged or just stupid?

TS was buffed in Version 8. You CAN escape if both catch you, if you're far away enough in ver 8, while ver 7, you can mash a bit and you'll be free, no carpal tunnel at all. No clue why this was done lol.

Make sure you (re)read both notes, one near the 1st safe room, one in the apartment near the graveyards.

after the Haru and Liz event she should be in the court yard between the 2 building with the graveyard in it. If you proceeded on to the next chapter to fight Mukuro I don't think she be there no more
