Oh, thank you for that link! I
really didn't understand the final battle all that much, since I beat it without losing, and didn't pay much attention to the statues I destroyed earlier. Reading an explanation on the author's blog made it
much more clear.
So everything about the last room was the evil god the cult (Er,
are they cultists, or corrupted priests? I'm still not entirely clear on that... Or how the curse started, for that matter) worshiped crafting a nightmare to condition the main character into accepting motherhood, so that she'll give birth to his physical form and in doing so grant him a permanent foothold in their reality... That... Sounds like a metaphor for
so many things, actually.
...Wait, doesn't that also mean that the entire game is pretty much playing into this evil god's hands? If she never came to the area, presumably he wouldn't have a potential vessel for his birth into the physical realm - I'm assuming nobody in the area is suitable (else he'd have already done so), and nobody outside the area can make their way to the cathedral because of, well, all of the mindless, deadly monsters.
I mean, really, if they hadn't sent a single, unescorted priestess (with no armor or miracles, and who keeps misusing her sword) to dispel this curse... What would he have done, exactly? Actually, doesn't it sound more like she was
deliberately sent to be this things vessel?
