You should install uBlock Origin to avoid getting redirected to fake links and ads in general. It might not be available on new versions of google chrome (since google loves ad revenue), but it works on other browsers like firefox and ms edge.

Good thing that you didn't immediately run the downloaded EXE and caught on the fact that it was supposed to be a compressed archive. You most likely clicked on one of the ads or one invisible overlay of it that's usually on top of the download button or even the whole page, just so that you click it first. It mostly will make you download something these phishers will tell you are "downloader software", sometimes it's something like a downloader.exe or just straight up the name of the file you want, plus dot EXE.
Literally won't be a problem if you knew exactly what you were trying to download in the first place, which is fortunately what you did.
