Yes, I agree Blizzard was heavily inspired by Lovecraft in creating Starcraft's Xel'naga race and in general the atmosphere of the game is a reminder of his work, and Anax is a great fan of him too so his work reflect the same atmosphere of this great novelist.

No, at the start the game give you the choice to go directly to the new content and not to play it from the beginning.
