The story is progressing in v0.11 around BB-clan and Mathilda up to the start of the epilogues.
The next version v0.12 will be around the rest of DR-clan (NOX and ...) (see discord).

Is there now a clearer connection to the ending of Sandstorm, that ties with this one?
How to max Candrid points? For whatever reason they aren't at 10, where they should be. I played BB path and made choices specifically to max her out, even watched the variables with each choice, but, somehow, haven't reached my goal.

That is highly unlikely. The only way to stay on the path Yrsa is to avoid other possible relationships.
The story continues depending on which clan you are in, for example, if you are in the Dark Raven path, the last update for this path is 0.9DR, if you are in the White Wolfs clan, the last update is 0.10WW, if you are in the Bloody Bears clan, the last story update is 0.11BB.

I really like this game... no, I love this game!! The storyline and the render quality are great. And every single female character is really beautiful... but the way the dev updates the game is so confusing. need to try every single path and option, and make so many save files... to play a little progress here before, and the little progress there for this update, and maybe some more somewhere for the next update, it's frustrating...
True, but only because Mathilda's path is directly related to the continuation of the story of Katja and Candrid. Currently, only members of the bear clan can have more than one girl.
In certain cases, this is possible, but you need to be careful about which specific characters you want to create your harem with.
WW can have both Sonja and Astrja or Astrid and Liz
DR can have Nox, Liz and Astrid
