Hello folks, trying to be prompt today as I try to get some shit done, so excuse my brevity.

So first order of business Billing is once again paused and will remain so until release is imminent. Wanted to get that posted first, now some update news.

So as I mentioned last time, we would be having some test builds out. And good news we did move into testing. On the flip side we have what is colloquially referred to as the bad news, while it worked in initial testing, testers and I have encountered errors in the save transfers, while it brings all the point values and a few of the variables (IE names are transferring fine) It does seem to be struggling with a not insignificant chunk of the rest of the variables which obviously is a problem. I’m attempting to figure out what exactly I broke in the process, but coding is not my strength, and this thing was tad more complicated than I usually attempt. I’m working on a fix at the moment, and I have a DM out to the gentleman who helped me build it initially, though he’s been away for a while so we’ll see where that goes. I’d prefer to fix it but worse comes to absolute worst I can just fold this into the initial executable, I’d really like to not do that because the amount of work to accommodate the backend changes is about as much as the work to fix the other problem. Also the size of the game was already getting unwieldy, but at this rate the thing will end up being 30G which is why I split it up in the first place. But at the end of the day I’ll do what needs to be done to get the release out. That’s our big hurdle at the moment, hard for the testers to test properly when paths are firing incorrectly at a whim, but they are doing the absolute best they can manage. They’re the unsung heroes of this whole thing, I wouldn’t be able to manage without them, they’re working the paths and renders they can when they get them, so really I just need to hurry up and solve this code issue and we can get them some proper work.

That’s about where we’re at, everything at the current moment hinges on me getting this fixed before we can make some proper progress so I’m going to get back to it. As usual I’m going to put it in my normal note about getting saves prepared to transfer with the caveat that you can probably wait a little longer, just in case there’s a code issue on that end that needs to be solved. But still be prepared.

That’s all I can really talk about in regards to our current build and where we’re at, so I’m going to leave it here and get back to work. I still have a long protracted dev ramble I’m sneaking out for you folks at some point, but getting my thoughts properly organised and formatted is a chore, and I figured you’d prefer I spend more time working on the update than that, so it’s been a very backburner project. As always I appreciate your support,patience and everything else you’ve contributed to my creative journey. I hope you have a lovely and safe rest of your week.

-Can you tell me what chapter/part is that?
-I remember there being lesbian points or something like that and people speculating that it was for a possible threeway/fourway route. Do we need to have 1 save per girl or do some girls share path?

atm 1 save, there are some options for possible 3somes.

The most recent release was "part 7" and, what is now called "Book 1" is releases from the beginning through part 7. The release you're talking about is, I believe, part 6, but you should be able to look at the number on the game and confirm that you're only one release behind.

There are "lesbian points" and I think it's for the reason you noted. The number of paths is a personal preference depending upon what content interests you most, and there are a couple of mutually exclusive events already. I have multiple routes saved that favor one LI or another (when there is a decision that seems to help one path and be either neutral or detrimental to another), and also have paths where the "lesbian points" are maximized or minimized. I like to get all the scenes and all the endings, so when I see a major decision that isn't covered by an existing path, I'll add another. If your goal is the same, then you'll need multiple split points, probably. If you're only interested in one LI or another, then you just focus on that LI and be done with it.

Oh God, we are not dealing with Unity here. I personally used persistent files from appdata in different games to transfer saves and it worked. If this issue takes weeks to solve, it is easier to create a workaround, so people can set the variables themselves. Who knows, may be someone will help the dev to repair the game after they have access to the code. After that, release to Steam.
Maybe a stupid question, but is there a reason why games like this aren't developed in an open source manner? Especially with something like this, having some more eyes would rlly expedite fixing these errors. Only real downside is the possibility of being inundated with PRs but I doubt it.

And this game doesn't have many trivial errors, but other games have frequent typos and the like and I find it so irritating that I end up editing the script files for my own sanity. And if I could just send a PR, that would benefit everyone else and also save the dev a ton of time as well.

money, making these costs quite a much and if game is open source then not many will pay.

Yea I considered that but that doesn't seem right. Since renders r a significant portion of (most) of these games along with the actual experience of playing the game, which is orthogonal to the codebase.

Tho in practical respects, I get what ur saying. Where only the codebase could be open source and not like there would just be easily downloadable binaries in the repo. So yea it being a prototypical FOSS project or something isn't entirely feasible. But it just seems like there should be some easy way to allow for pretty trivial collaboration with minor bug fixes and the like.

rendering computer capable to render hundreds of images during night isn't cheap and ofc there's rent, electricity, water,
...... to pay.

sooo any reassuring news on the update yet?
no news since end of september.

These games are visual novels, and graphical by nature. Try open sourcing a book or movie. It's an artistic project, and singular artistic visions are much stronger experientially than art by committee.
