Despite the images that people are calling AI in question are pictures YOU CAN WATCH THEM DRAW BY HAND IN THE VERY FREE ACCESSIBLE STREAMS. Look this game has a lot of development problems, but AI is not one of them. It's an easily dis-proven point and it distracts from more valid discourse.

Yeah, just cuz it's being hand-drawn NOW doesn't mean this stylistic change isn't also super obviously a transparent attempt to eventually switch production capabilities entirely. Dude builds his entire "brand" on drawing character designs ripped straight out of a TV show, but then starts purposefully drawing them like AI slop that conveniently has the correct number of fingers... the only conclusion therefore is that claiming this is a change in drawing preferences is total bullshit.

I think you may be ascribing to conspiracy that which is more readily explained by the simpler concept of them no longer caring about quality or maintaining a consistent style.
They've been doing this so long, and their feedback on Patreon / Discord is a sycophantic echo chamber, so they just don't hear the negative opinions. They 'know they're right' because they're making all that money every month.


And my two-pen'orth on the AI debate - I've created LOTS of AI-generated images using many models trained on SR7s work. They all produce stuff much closer to the previous style (albeit sometimes with too many fingers!). I would conclude that they're not yet using it, or only for backgrounds.

Nah, I disagree with the idea of SS7 using LLM generated images when the old copy paste and recycled body type does the trick. The best example was in Themyscira when most of the amazons share the same body type and in some cases even the same poses.

Comrade Conspiracy says its a custom LLM based on the modular layers they already have in their catalog running on a home pc. Thus the evolutionary growth of the AI is negated by it being a private llm. As this is why they had some delays as they were building it and now it's not producing as hoped/planned. Tin foil away!!!

Yes they are purposely "drawing like AI" because that makes more sense than "they moved to an art style you don't like". I'm not saying the new style is better or worse, but it is just like a fact that artists change their styles over time, you can call it being lazy, pandering, or just shifting their look, and its fine to not like said change in style, but calling it AI basically just because you don't like it is both misinformed and reductive of both larger issues in hand. Weather you like the style or not it's still hand drawn and not AI, so that critique is just blatantly false, and focusing on it or trying to double down on it does nothing but obstruct more constructive criticisms, like say their inability to deliver updates on time, how they interact with the online community as a whole "its not great lol", or yes even a distastes in artistic direction. As an artist myself I can say nothing will make an artist ignore your input or opinion regardless of their validity if you start falsely accusing them of AI shit. Granted Gunsmoke doesn't respond to criticism well anyway but still. You want them to change course then properly diagnose the issue, don't just throw blanket statements like "it's AI" when it's provably not. Criticize the things you don't like about the new style with CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM and even if they don't say it out-loud most artists will at least keep it in mind.

Your argument basicly amounts to "My composite images made out of plagiarized SS7s looks closer to their old style, than their new art does" No, duh the computer is trained on the old art so it's going to emulate it more than an actual artist developing a stlye on their own. Also I've see the AI image threads you guys have and literally every image you make is trash even compaired to SS7s newer stuff. I'd rather have reused assets 1000 times over than any of that AI swill.

It can't be a fan game made by a small dev team with little to no previous experieance working on a busted engine that so deadline issues and a controversal shift in art style. NO It's gotta be an AI scam to milk the masses out of their hard earned cash, where everyone is just sitting on their ass all day doing literally nothing. People giving honset critisism can't be people who genuinly enjoy the project and just like to see it improved, NO they are just trolls on the internet bitching and leeching off of Devs hard work. I've been a follower of this game since the begining, I've been following this tread since its start, sometimes I've even sucked it up and been a partreon supporter because I liked the content in the update and felt it was worth my 5 bucks. Bro read their disclaimer, since it's a parody of copyrighted characters, them getting paid for the game is illegal. So everything that is into the game should be free for everyone. And their last public build was 2 years ago.

Well since they have a bad habit of communicating I will shed some light here on what was brought to the table. As mentioned in the town hall a few times they wanted AI for the backgrounds much like what Draw with Jazza uses to make a project less stressful for the artist. Conception of 1 main background and 30 copies of referenced perspective is plausible with a lora that will generate random placed copies of beds, walls and stools.

But the limitations with the AI on characters CG are so critically different it's implausible to be used in a efficient manner with how Sunset operates.
The amount of making said content is impractical.
Generating bodies that are more western require a specific model and multiple specific loras to operate.
The images generated to be high quality require the subject to be close to the camera leaving little room for artistic expression, any tags with full body will have a low quality model especially on the hands and face.

Even after generating the base images it requires an artist capable as Sunset to fix the images.

With all these factors my conclusion is if you integrate AI images it will hinder the main production, the solution is to only be used as inspiration and reference or by an artist constant monitoring and fixing the mistakes.

How I would put it as an artist if I was faced with that is.
"So instead of me calling the shots on what scenes there can be in my game, I have to let the computer suggest and give specific instructions every time I want a specific image oh and I need to test all day specific lora combinations to have variations."

There is more time to lose than to gain.

one minor correction, their code isn’t a jumbled mess. Their code doesn’t exist. This thing is built in a gui editor called fungus that generates the code. That’s why fixing anything is so difficult and why it breaks in very weird ways that are hard to debug.

It’s an old version of software that is buggy as shit (fungus) and isn’t supported and the new version of it can’t load this project. That’s why the testing phase is such an unpredictable shit show.

I wish the Android version was published for PC like the stand alone bits all in ren’py because that shit is way easier to debug and would allow for more game elements to be added.

But saying nobody purposefully "draws like AI" is nonsense, both because anyone can draw a hand with extra fingers (drawing the hand well-proportioned, that's another story; just ask Van Gogh, and that was before he was hittin' the absinthe) and also because AI (well, convolutional neural nets, since AI is some nebulous catchall bullshit) doesn't draw. Prolly the most correct active verb would be "generate."
