I feel the need to disagree with this. Parody is satirical, fair use would require review, analysis or education. In short, the work would have to be transformative. SR7 is not criticizing, critiquing or otherwise making a commentary on the DCU, nor is anything he doing transformative of it. He is simply writing a story within that universe using its characters, and he's doing it in a way that DC comics itself would never do on account of censorship and decency laws. This is parody. They're borrowing characters from DC Universe but they have not stolen any assets and made it clear it is not associated with DC. Parody is very different to someone reuploading and selling their game somewhere else. I believe when SU was first released, it was originally called Justice League Unlimited and they had to change the title due to a C&D from DC.
This is fan fiction. And he gets paid to make it, as opposed to creating a product with the IP and selling it himself for a profit.
Or so it goes.
I respect what SR7 is doing here. His art style is great and this game is exactly the same type of expansion to the DCAU that all of us who love Manga and Anime get when we play videogames or read dojins.
But it's not parody, just like Axel Braun's work isn't really parody either. They're the same characters doing the same things we expect of them, in character.
These are parody.
Not SU.
