Why are we not supposed to farm the "hazard" thingies? If I do, nothing bad seems to happen. Also, what's the red number "yield 32 t"? Looks like it's more weight than I can carry, but the game doesn't show any punishment / loss of material either?

Also, what is "cargo free 21 of 25 t" supposed to mean? When I exit, I get this message:

The game could've really explained these things once..
Hazards start appearing in a field you unlock later. They are marked with a red ! mark, and they immediately end your mining session.
If the yield number is red, it means total yield is more than your free cargo space. In this case, when you're done mining, you'll discard the least valuable parts of the yield - the list above the yield number is sorted by value, so beryllium ore is the most valuable there and iron ore is the least. If you want to prioritize picking up some less valuable resource (if you need it for a mission, for example), "Prio" buttons next to the list will let you do that.
"21 of 25 t" is free and total cargo space you have.
A "Help" command is available while mining and it explains all or most of that, and it's the same help screen that's shown on your first mining attempt.
Also, about your review - you got your objectives wrong. All you need to do at first is buy some subunits, which cost about 10k each, and it lets you expand your range to a better mining field. Then you unlock other, more lucrative to earn money. A Mk2 won't be necessary for a while.
