tbh, i couldn't care less if the art wasn't the dev's, there are plenty of games out there that has ripped art and don't get nearly as much shit for it (ex: almost any slave management game). Hell i could argue that all real porn games use stolen assets but not a whole lot of pitchforks are out for those. What WOULD make this shitty in my opinion is if the art was all it was, just a gallery and no "game" surrounding it like most of the game types i mentioned has.
I don't like those games either.

Stolen assets games are trash, not because "stealing bad". But because:
1. they are low effort cash grab
2. because the plot is twisted around to fit the art rather than the plot coming first and the art then being fitted to it. Which at best is neutral but almost always ends poorly

There are some occasional gems where the stolen assets are just there as art, and there's a genuinely high effort product under the surface, like all of the BF stuff from sns and 2ch. Nearly all of those have their own stories, and dig through giant piles of art to find stuff that fits, and none of them have any monetization.

That said, this isn't that. This is trash.

Agreed on the second point but not on the first. Dude is doing this for fun and not charging a dime. When he starts charging that is when the low effort of the game will make me upset.

Well, people also don't want their games that they are selling on DLSite or Steam (or locked behind Patreon tiers for that matter) to be shared for free as well, but they are still shared on this site. So what's your point?

Many of the games rake in the dough due to the publicity it gets on this forum, some developers actually post the games themselves and are actively reacting on this website. I will take an educated guess that maybe 0.1% or less of this site's visitors can actually understand and read Japanese, so I doubt those developers lose much for something that was created for the Japanese market in the first place as those DLsite games in almost all cases don't have Official English translations.

Unlike his games, this site actually credits the original authors and links to the Steam/Patreon or other websites to support the developer.

This is like some guy claiming he made the Mona Lisa and getting the fame and publicity from it, whereas people on this site are either Patreon subscribers (Louvre museum visitors) or freeloaders that look at pictures of the Mona Lisa on the internet. In the last two groups nobody denies that the Mona Lisa was created by Leonardo da Vinci and give him credit where credit is due.

This guy has 766 followers on itch.io by bundling videos created by others together, not to mention the fact he ACTUALLY tried to monetize this by creating a Patreon, see my previous post on Page #1, so his intentions were clear from the get go. He set that aside for now(?) but I will take a guess that he will try to monetize this in one way or the other in the future.

Stolen stuff is one thing and we shouldn't complain about it on this website, but i hate the sheer stupidity and entitlement that reeks out of the dev notes. Just because you don't make money out of it, doesn't mean you can just take anyones stuff and use it as you see fit.

Everyone who says "no copyright infringement intended" or something of the same meaning and thinks that makes it better deserves to get shot into the sun.

well they should just accept that given I'm pretty sure the original creators and companies like DC and Marvel did not gave permission for these artists to create smut for their work to begin with. the idea of copy right on something that is copy right of another thing holds little water as far as I'm concern.

Still, for example there's a big difference between making original art inspired by a movie vs just taking/copying said movie and repurposing it. Many companies will look the other way on the former, but not the latter.

Stolen assets are not the problem, the problem is that that's all that happened. It's just a gallery of stolen assets.

Brothel King uses stolen assets, but it doesn't get flak for it because the assets are put to use in an actual game, with an original plot and with real mechanics. They're not slammed because the dev has produced a product - the game, even if the artwork for the product isn't his own.

Simply making a gallery out of stolen assets and calling it a game, perhaps adding a couple lines of dialogue; that's not actually work, and that's the actual thing people take umbrage with. You can't just expect people to sit and enjoy it when your supposed game is basically just a severely trimmed down version of gelbooru.

Try Nintendo and see if you get a copyright strike or not.
I said "many" companies and not "all" for good reason.

A large company like Nintendo will crack down on you if a project or some such is getting a lot of attention and they want to protect their brand, or they feel it's taking money away from official releases or merch. That's a relatively small percentage of cases though in the grand scheme of things.

For instance, if you ever go to an artist alley at a convention, you'll see that tons of amateur fanart, Nintendo or otherwise, sells just fine. Or hey, visit a site like Deviantart, and it's full of similar fanart. Generally fan work isn't going to bother a company, especially if you aren't profiting off of it.

The bigger issue with things like this game is more about plagiarism than copyright. This isn't fan work, it's blatantly stolen work in a new package. That's the issue that, as you can see from this thread, is generally not well received and largely frowned upon.
