Yes you can play as gay. Due to story reasons you won't actually identify as gay until somewhat late in the game (late relative to present version 2.2.2).
And no you won't be forced in str8 content. There are however a few instances where things are a bit unpolished and the dev forgot to include a "gay response". And at least one instance where you cannot avoid str8 content unless you completely avoid a serie of scenes. For example, there's a nun appearing at some point and your character is "ermagerd tits", and author forgot to add a type of "eww" option for the "gay path". And there's one more similar situation. But for the vast majority of content you can choose a clear "gay" option and happily avoid any icky str8 content.
As for the semi-unavoidable thing I was talking about, there's actually 2 situations. One I didn't care about, but one of them is indeed frustrating. Eh whatever.
First one is the fight scenes with she-hulk. If you want to play the "badass" who puts up a fight you are forced into a str8 scene with that wildebeest. The only way to avoid her is to give up from the start and be called a "coward" (major eye roll).
The second one, and the frustrating one since it's with a character that I thought was cool and I liked is with Cici. During the bunk convo scenes if you try to go thru all the dialogues you are forced into some form of sexual situation. And this is after she notices you are probably gay. There is no way to avoid it, no way to choose a "friend only" option, or a "I'm gay" option... nothing. You basically have to cut things short and get the "bad ending" for that scene with her or be forced into some str8 shenanigans.
Other than that all is good.
Edit: Noticed someone mentioning purple dialogue options and it reminded me of another "mmm no" moment. Late in the game you have the gay option (pink) basically mixed with the purple ones (even though there are 2 purple ones as well... meh). And selecting this pink option enables genderbent kink... which no. But whatever. You have to take that option if you want to fool around with Chad. Luckily season 2 is very close after that and you get to select manually what kinks you want on/off so you can remove or add whatever you want.

Thanks for the really detailed response. Is the dev even aware that there are players who would like to be able to skip/avoid the str8 scenes - like, has anyone ever mentioned this? I assume since they've deliberately included gay content/route they must have some awareness that there are people who would ONLY choose that if they could, so it's weird that there are no options to avoid the 'unappealing' content altogether. In the same way that hetero characters (or players) would, and probably can, avoid any/all gay content. And it doesn't even seem that difficult to implement an additional option to skip it...
from now on my android ports of Ren'Py games have a 2nd, persistent save location like windows. if you uninstall an app, the save files and persistent data remain intact.
therefore the app needs the permission to access the public external storage (or a new one on Android 11 ), because it has to read and write outside its own external storage directories.
you have to grant the permission or the app is shut down.
have fun and please report problems (you can reach me
By "bad ending" I mean the way the game treats it. It kind of tells you you messed up and you get negative points with Cici. Yes I don't want her as a "virtual stable" option but I would like her as a friend. Instead you get that "summary" screen telling you "don't expect a xmas card" or something. The card thing is not for this particular convo it's for another spot. For the bunk bed you get the "that could have gone better", implying you did bad.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I would like if there was a difference between "bad ending" and "friendship" kind of like Cole has his paths? Right now the fact your interaction with someone cool like Cici seems to have an implied negative outcome if you refuse sex with her is a bit dissapointing really. Same with Fatima.
I really couldn't be bothered less for any "negative bells and whistles" when it comes to Anna or Cole lol.

I think the Dev assumes you want to fuck everyone, thats why that noise has such a "fail" ring to it, but if you don't want a relationship with that person I can't see it as anything but good, I assume it means you won't get anymore "romance" prompting in regard to them after that.
And bud your Sis is your sis, I doubt she'll stop wanting to hang with you just because you don't want to fuck her.

Thing is(SPOILERS) Your start out as a backwater yokel in some Church faith. You'll stumble around, trying find who you are. You can mostly avoid majority of the stuff, but again this sorta your getting free of it all and learning who you are(With some hilarity here & there)

Those situations I mentioned are pretty much the ONLY ones. Like I said it's more like dev forgot in those spots to add a "gay response" type of thing not a general lack of gay options. For the vast majority of the game you can select a clear gay option. And the game takes note of this and you get all this little hints and "wink wink" moments telling Jimmi (default protagonist name) he's gay while he keeps denying it for a long time
As for the dev yea he is aware. If you join his discord and have questions he seems to respond instantly lol. That was the case for me anyway. I was impressed.

Like JJDrakkensaid, your character is from the Arse end of Bumsville, brought up in an environment of rigidly conservative/religious values you can't start off as gay, if you were, you'd be sent of for deprogramming in a heartbeat (he is brainwashed into a puritanical mind state, frankly I'm surprised he isn't a serial killer, though I guess the story is still young).
One thing I love about this story is that the MC is so sexually repressed it keeps every kink open without having to wonder why he didn't already know this about himself, why he is still a virgin despite a herculean physique in a town full of nymphos.

Ahh okay, I wasn't aware that this game had that kind of depth; that is, that the character actually comes to know themselves over the course of the game and grows into themselves; I thought this was more a case of porn with minimal plot (or insignificant plot). Knowing that's not the case suddenly makes it a LOT more interesting and right up my alley! Thanks for taking the time to explain.

Parts feel a little like you're filling out a psyche evaluation, but hopefully that'll level out as we enter the game proper. There is a lot of good writing in there and some very funny moments.
The in-game walkthrough says there is one, and that you have to click the icon to get it. However as I said in my first post, clicking on it does nothing. Normally I'd probably just play it and not worry about it, but while messing around I did find out there is at least one Kink thing that can be activated during that, so it seems (can't confirm as I haven't progressed) that content can be unlocked or locked during this. Hence why I now want to know how to see the walkthrough that is mentioned.
