I think it's about building up the mc. The guy is in an unfamiliar environment and is experiencing new things all the time. But he won't be the helpless cadet he was before. Already there are signs that he has more power than he thinks. There are options to turn things around on Munipanni, and the mc will likely be in more positions of power as more updates roll around.

The comic MC is constantly pushed/abused/confrontated by (many) other characters and/or being innocent victim of several accidents. Concerning SpaceCorps are more complex, and they have also almost fantasy narratological line, it is to be expected MC will evolve in time and he will be able to avoid the "perils" better and better, but - hopefully - often in a funny way (and not raping his poor cosplay-pseudo-nazi interrogator). Yes, in a word, it is good to notice from the very beginning that this is really not some ordinary porn-game and - if possible - to change at least some of the usual expectations
