Accept the writing to make no sense, common sense or logic at all.
Expecting less from the author in believable content can result with less regrets.

Sounds like this project is actually revived and being worked on again and the one version wasn't just a bunch of old unreleased stuff from way back. I like that. Would be great though if the mechanics would get some polish or hint system to reduce the grind of not knowing how to trigger the next scene.
