There's a big difference between the story of an average person and a story that can be written with a more regular protagonist, and that exaggerated rattle-off is a good example why more grounded medieval and fantasy stories serve a function: you wouldn't've written that if your misconceptions hadn't been reinforced by media. There are plenty of options besides peasants, and even then one of the most influential, famous and (in England) notorious women of the 15th century was born as a peasant girl.Generally fantasy stories are in a medieval(ish) setting and chances are most people wouldn't like the story of an average person during that time. You get married at 12, have 7 children by the time you're 22 but 5 of them die before they're 3, your wife is killed when enemy raiders burn your village, you're a grandfather at 30 and you die of dysentery at 32 (but you don't really mind, because the arthritis is almost crippling at that point.)
