Recommending Story-first games

Edit: @desmosome I agree. As you are saying. story first. It was not about the different viewpoints on that, that was questioned to be included. But the essence of what if it was not "story first", but what if "Almost story first". I personally like the topic here because of the line it draws. If it doesn't what is the purpose of it.

At the end of the day, art is subjective to a large degree. "Almost story-first" is basically an extension of different viewpoints since some of the criteria jufot uses is subjective. Personally, I even see games on the list that fail the criteria. Deviancy, for example, was basically a standard incest harem where everyone was lusting after the MC's magic cock (at least up to the point where I dropped it). I left a shitpost in the game thread half-jokingly and even got a rare facepalm from jufot LOL.

The point is that jufot isn't making the thread about himself. He has his own criteria that he tries to follow for the official list, but the thread has been always open to discussion on any number of topics as long as I've been checking it out.

Well, now I feel compelled to defend Deviancy So far, the game is not a harem (incestual or otherwise) because the only real LI is the sister, who you have a pre-existing sexual relationship with. As of the latest update, you can cheat on her with another girl from school, but that's about it.

Now, admittedly, it is going towards a family harem direction, so it would be the fair to say the game doesn't belong here. 90% of my attraction to Deviancy is the quality of its writing and banter (Ms. Buchard is probably my favourite teacher ever), but that doesn't make it story first. The day it jumps the ship and becomes an over-pornified nonsense, I'll drop it from the list, just like I did with The Seven Realms

Well, by almost story-first, I thought we were talking about games that almost pass the criteria in the OP but fail on one (possibly subjectively). A dev might have their own criteria for what they consider a story driven game, but it might not make the list. There is room for discussion regardless of if it goes on the list. I'm pretty sure I've checked out great story driven games that are not on the OP from the discussions.

As for your interaction with noping, I saw it happen in real time. It's just misunderstanding and needless escalation on both sides. Noping facepalmed your non combative answer because he probably viewed it as dismissive. That probably got on your nerves and you made some passive aggressive post. Then noping replied with another passive aggressive thing. Then you did a clap back with a huge escalation.

Whatever, just move on everyone. It's not even like there was any reason to get at each other here.

About the 'almost story first' games that won't ever make it into the list, I'd say Deliverance, a crime drama with supernatural elements (demons and zombies, kind of). Always having time (and being in the mood) to get frisky at the most critical moments kills some of the tension but sex scenes are mostly good and, above all, there's a story there, even despite some flaws. Some interesting points about free will and determinism are made (the village chapter with the trials is quite interesting and makes a great work in explaining the site's odd religion, even if it's a bit cryptic around the central mystery). Sometimes it lacks some internal coherence and realism in the supposedly realistic parts, and some big questions remain unanswered, but there are tons of choices that matter to build the ending (there are 8 different major endings, with several subendings that take past choices into account) and you can choose to be either good or evil. Basically, in the first part of the game, you're a detective chasing a serial killer you want to get revenge on, who seems to be the leader of a demon cult. Then, when you finally manage to take him down, it happens that this was only the first step of a bigger plan that needed you to be in that position to embrace your real destiny -or to fight against it. MC is on the dominating side but you are in a functional marriage with a loving wife and you can just stick with her (even the 'sharing route' is made about her exploring her naughty side and not about humiliating her for your own gratification).

On another note, I've just spent my saturday enjoying Camp Klondike. Sometimes I feel the MC is tooo perfect, as if he had actually written that book and wasn't only the coverboy, but still. Reminded me of those sweet times when I discovered girls were no sacred and pure angels and thought about dirty things too. It's probably the most erotic thing I've come across in the last few years in this forum.

This is a dev that showed some noticeable improvements in presenting the story as the game went on. The beginning was rather rough with abrupt cuts and jumping from scene to scene with no smooth transition whatsoever.

What was lacking in technical writing ability was compensated by a pretty good world building and general plot. That said, it never presented itself as story first, imo. It achieved that "perfect" balance with equal parts porny shit and a main plotline that could keep your interest. All things considered, it was a great project, especially since the dev works like a beast and always had sizable updates with no delay (I think).

It was a nice development cycle, quite regular, and he even reworked and updated the oldest content while adding new chapters. It seems he's getting some good numbers on Steam too so I'm really happy for him.

It was interesting and refreshing, the encounters always show so much love and respect between MC and his wife -even if she was doing some dirty things to other men there never was any hint of jealousy or humiliation, it was all very healthy. Threesomes with conveniently bisexual love interests are of course part of the game if you want them too, but the sharing thing brought him some headaches from the usual suspects. Sadly he has decided to drop those 'spicy' elements in his new project.

In the last 2 weeks i read more AVN's than i usually do. Normally i read like 1 AVN a week.. Well, unfortunately i deleted most of them after like 30 minutes. Knowing that this is supposed to be a parody i don't even wanna know how a non parody AVN from this developer would look like..
