Looks like hand painterly style textures. Not sure you'd need much in the way of shader customization for that.

nice to see this game picked up again. have not played the latest release, but from what i remember it had top tier animations and a pretty artstyle for a 3d render game. I hope it stays in active development this time.

This game is amazing. Downloaded it because I was bored and holy moly am I glad I did. Dialogue is absolutely hilarious.
