This to me is a definitive sign there's no chance of him ever coming back, which is a shame.
Idk how well this game would be if someone else took over, could be better, could be worse, but probably won't hit the same.
If someone does take over though I hope its someone who's just as good or better in terms of art/storytelling/coding.
What a downer, definitely didn't expect this to happen. I hope someone picks up the game if all the work was handed over. Hopefully the story notes were handed over since sometimes projects do change hands. There was actually some interesting threads that I wish were answered.

Sadly feel like if this does get worked on by someone else, they'll probably take the story in their own direction, unless Flynn has notes/answers on all of these and the new dev faithfully adapts those ideas.
High chance the story takes a direction that Flynn never intended and all the answers to those won't be the same as he intended.

Sadly that is the case. But i love to hear that he's willing to hand down the project + i think he's after someone who will follow the story. As i think he has story notes or he can simply write and entire script for said person and CO work on the project "in the story aspect"

That is why I hope the answers were in the notes. If there were no answers it will definitely go in a way that was never intended. Though that might not be a bad thing in the end because who knows what direction this ship was sailing after all.

Well.....shit.....one more great game dead and gone....sad. I hope Flynn is doing alright and that his family remains healthy or becomes healthy once more.

Even if someone does take over the game, I just hope Mods here will still preserve the original version of the game and put a notice informing the difference between the original and the other. Flynn's vision and hard work should be remembered by future players.

If he was interested in doing that, he would have brought someone in already. Personally, I'd rather see someone create a new game inspired by this one instead of them trying to continue Flynn's story. Even if a talented dev picked this up, they'd likely have a different writing style, ideas etc... it wouldn't be the same. I understand that people are sad that this is abandoned, but if Flynn doesn't have the time and/or motivation to work on it, I think it's better to just let it die.
It's terribly saddening that Flynn has had to abandon Stray Incubus. It was one of the handful of VN's here I was able to see the progression and improvement throughout.
The conundrum of whether someone should takeover or try to continue SI reminds me of other Abandoned games, as well as TV shows when the original writers are replaced: it is so incredibly difficult to retain that feel, whether it be the humour, the sex scenes or the characterizations.
My idealistic suggestion in what to do would be to treasure the memories of this game and its characters, and perhaps to have some cameo in other games - think of how many other VN's Misty has appeared in. That might be the best way to appreciate Flynn's work.

Bringing up TV shows does make me wonder of a concept where AVNs are made as a season/franchise with different devs per season, like how shows have different writers/directors per episode, sounds interesting but also no guarantee if they'll feel like the same game/have the same quality
Considering the world and lore of SI it would be interesting to see pan out, but I do think that's better done on a new piece of media rather than trying to continue someone else's work. I agree on the sentiment that the game should just be put to rest rather than try to be revived, as sad as that may be.
That being said, considering there are games that are straight up parodies of mainstream media but are good enough quality and characterization to stand on their own two feet, I can see a possibility of making a completely new game but with the same character models, like how Flynn used Luna and her dad from Eternum, and the Stormside girls, but gave them a twist here to where it feels like they're alternate universe variants pre-existing in this world.
Like the game could be Stray Incubus: Rebooted and just carry on the storyline with some new flavor, but that would take a pretty good writer to actually be received well imo.
Another direction would be to have like a reincarnation/alternate universe where the same characters exist, either in the same era, or in a more modern setting but have the same lore and story (Percy Jackson style), don't even need to callback to the original game, can just have it as a standalone thing, or if they want either tie in to the plot (like Sicae/MBML), or just have easter eggs (like OiALT/Eternum)
