Not really, He has mentioned all of this before with how everything is affecting him and his family. And he has mentioned on several occasions that when every update gets leaked on f95 his income literally chumped.

Flynn needs to support his family and their well being with a career change that will actually do something. This wasn't really abrupt this was something that was bound to happend.
Sadly this is true. While this is a piracy website, this game was probably THE game which was leaked the fastest while the Dev did not have a large enough following to compensate for this. There are other games here which get leaked very fast, sometimes within minutes, but those Devs are large enough that it does not endanger the development. Sadly this is not the case for this game here.

So sad for the project to go, it had come a long way in such a short amount of time. And Flynn as an actually good guy communicating and all (even here) will be sorely missed. Big props to not milking and being so honest about it, even if it is a very personal situation and it's probably not easy. Kind of sad the fast leaks had at least a part in ruining it, small games normally don't have it this badly I feel.

In case you read this, wish you all the good in the world Flynn974. You truly deserve it. Hope everything turns out well in the end.

Sadly, that was the main case yes. Flynn maybe had around 200 active supporters. While his game were leaked within hours of its released updates while the actual date would be around 10-20 days for the public verison to be out.

Sure games like Eternum gets leaked often aswell but the major difference is that Caribdis is working full time on the game with income of around 20-28k/month. With almost around 2 thousand active supporters... It's an absolute insane difference.

I respect Flynn getting where he got the game with the amount of support he had and the OFTEN leaks that would make his income worse.

This was exactly the game I was thinking about. The latest Eternum-Update was leaked within minutes, yet the Dev does not have to worry, since they have a huge following. For a game like Stray Incubus with only a fraction of the active supporters, it is simply deadly if it leaks too early too often. Games like this basically live of people supporting for a month to get the new Update early, with it being leaked within a day those dont have any need to do so.

I really have the highest respect for Flynn, he was probably the Dev who improved the most over time - the start of Stray Incubus was really rough, but it got so much better over time.

This is such sad news. This was one of my favorites. Cute models, nice story without being serious for nothing. Damn. Every good game is getting cancelled nowdays, only shitty NTRs, futa and AIcg survive. With subscribestar getting fucked too, 2025 might be the end of a good run for Adult VNs as we knew them.

there was enough legitim criticism toward the game which was ignored by flynn so I dont wonder why he had only 200 patreons. If Charibdis wants to ignore criticism thats his thing and he can swallow what ever losses it brings him, flynn couldnt but did it still and all the people glazing him here didnt do him any favours with it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Still hope he can sort his family problems and that they aren't as severe as they seem to be, nobody needs/deserves shit like that.

While I fully understand the concept of piracy and the will that drives people to become the ultimate hero, sadly, these heroes also destroy one's life while they bask in the praise of the masses. This affects us HS developers the most, who are denied of possible passive income from Steam. All we have is our income from Patreon; without that, we are also nothing.

I wish, and I hope that next time someone thinks of leaking a game, they will kindly consider the developer's life first.

It is unfortunate, but this is the reality that we have to accept.

I'm gutted to see the game and Flynn's career as a dev end so abrutptly...

But seeing the messages of some of you, it wasn't that abrupt and it was only a matter of time. The "heroes" leaking the game without letting the dev make a living are mostly to blame and I'm beyond pissed.

This is a major problem and some of us are always trying to let the dev make some money before leaking ; most of the other though.... whining entitled children. Well congratulations...

I'm so sorry for Flynn, I hope the best for him and his family.
This game was one of the best I've ever played and I will miss it terribly...

I honestly wasn't ready for this to be over. I already knew this was coming for a while now but I guess I was just not willing to accept that this would happen and I would somehow make working on the project work, but the reality is, it won't
Phew.... Where do i even start...

First of all, i was a supporter. I was even one of the guys who upped their tier after flynn threatened to just abandon the game if it doesn´t get more support. Everything seemed fine for a while. I was on the Discord server but never really checked it, so him just nuking the project, at least for me, came out of the blue and it left quiet a bitter taste in my mouth. For me it just feels like he tried to milk this as long as he can and in the end he just took the money and straight up bolted.

One of the problems this game had was the Tier list. Having to wait almost a month for some to reach their tier? Can´t even blame em for pirating this game.
One of my suggestions was: A 2 day delay between the different tiers. People are more willing to wait a couple of days than a whole month. It was straight up ignored, i was ridiculed and mocked. Now look what happened. And i still don´t know who i want to blame more. Flynn, who just nuked everything and vanished into the night, after ignoring almost every positive suggestion, or the Pirates who (logically) weren´t willing to wait a month? Guess that one should be easy...

Rip Misty, Rip Gabby, Rip Centoria, Rip every single one of my favorite characters...

Stray Incubus was the first game I actually started supporting on Patreon, so I'm absolutely gutted to see it being shut down. That being said, as others have mentioned, a lot of us saw this coming from his posts on the Discord and whatnot about the early leaks costing him money.

That being said, if you're relying on Patreon income as a way of living while making a HS/Koikatsu game, unless you hit the jackpot with a huge following like Eternum, you've already doomed yourself to fail.

One thing HS/Koikatsu devs should realize is no amount of goodwill, begging, or yelling will stop your game from being leaked. Expect it. It will happen. If your income depends on it NOT happening, or it only happening after X amount of weeks have passed, you've already failed and it's only a matter of time before you go under. It's sad, but it's the reality of the internet. If F95 didn't exist, it'd just happen elsewhere.

I wish the best for Flynn's family's health, and his own health/mental health. I hope whatever he does in life provides him happiness. And I hope that, maybe someday in the future when his life is more stable, he could start working on Stray Incubus again as a hobby and not a job.

A 2 day delay between the different tiers.
A 2 day delay wouldn't even make it worthy to even consider upgrading to one of the higher tiers to support the dev and to get some fitting benefits. If you suggested that and got mocked... I honestly do not understand what you were expecting.

I think the default that many devs are using are a 9 day delay between the different tiers which is absolutely fine + with some fitting benefits for said tiers.

With your 2 day delay suggestion, you were thinking about how to please the people that couldn't wait 15+ days for their tier to get the release. But what you didn't think about with your 2 day delay suggestion is that it would affect Flynn aswell. As i said at the start of this post. A 2 day delay wouldn't make it worthy to upgrade to one of the higher tiers.

And something that must be understood is that Flynn weren't in a good position to even start a project like this. He really counted on the support the game would get.

I was genuinely concerned when Flynn first DM'd me on Discord about devs not socializing with each other. I mean, we are not enemies here, brother. :KEK:
But I was happy to see his game being well received. He's one of the few people who lifted my shoulders up when I was mentally struggling, so I'm really sad to see him go.

And yes, I agree with you. This is one of the faces of the industry—leaks. So you have to be mentally prepared for that. First and foremost, that's what I always tell aspiring devs who ask me tips either about HS2 stuff, or what to expect. You'd have to have some kind of thick skin to survive this side of the world.

Loved the game. Shocked to see it go. Going to miss the characters he created. I wish him the best of luck and thanks for what he produced so far. It was a fun ride, sad it ended this way .
