Check In 11/18/2025
Howdy folks! Apologies for the slight tardiness today, as I briefly mentioned on Discord I was training yesterday and forgot that one of the most important parts of sparring is avoiding getting hit in the head. So thoughts were not thinking so well yesterday. Anyway I'm totally good now, rested and ready so lets do this. Shouldn't be too much of a ramble today.
First off fresh build was sent to the boys yesterday, looking thick solid and tight. As of now I've told the them to expect maybe two and half more builds before release "Stew, what the fuck is a half release?" I hear you asking. It's just my dumb way of saying a release candidate getting a final once over before release. From a creative standpoint I'm fairly happy with where we're at, things aren't looking totally terrible, so I suppose that's good. After much hmming and hawing I think I'm actually satisfied with the things I wasn't before. So either it's passed the bar into passable, or I've just hit Stockholm Syndrome levels, both are possible. I have a meeting with another dev tomorrow to see if they can help me out with something pertaining to it, should only take the afternoon to knock out. With that complete we're just doing the best to get our final sprint out. I'm holding out to see how this next build is looking, then I should be more comfortable on giving an exact date for release. Anyway that's about all we have this week so after a quick clarifying note I'm going to get out of your hair.
So before I bounce, I had a comment last week asking for some clarification on exactly what I mean when I mention sending "builds" to my testers. I think I've briefly mentioned it before but it's been some time and we have new folks so doesn't hurt to mention it again. When I say build I'm talking about the exact segments of the update that I'm sending over to be tested. I've mentioned before but I send builds in segments, makes it easier to make sure that all branches are covered, but also makes bug squashing much easier, if a bug pops up we know exactly what section it's in. So I find a point in the update where every path converges into a singular one and cut it off there. Then I send it off and let them try to break it, find render and animation errors and whatnot. They send what they find, I fix and then we repeat the process. Once it's looking good I find the next segment that converges and add it in, rinse and repeat until everything is in and tested. For a more hard number the currently tested point is about 2/3rds to 3/4s of everything in (depending on paths taken) I've told the testers to expect the next one to be about 98% of the whole thing. (I still have music, some timing on dynamic images and other assorted small tweaks to put in before it's 100%) So once we've done a hard test on everything there one more feature complete sweep of a release candidate and then we're done. Which will probably be good for my blood pressure. Hopefully that elucidates what I mean a little bit.
That's all from me, I'm heading back to work, thank you as always for your support and I hope you have a lovely and safe week.
Sláinte.
PS. I was also asked last week that when Author Definitive is released on Steam if it will also be available here? The answer is yes it will also be accessible here.
