Good art and history but i think that the combat could be better and the maybe improve the scaling of the character by leveling up, increasing stats, because sometimes the battles are based in luck if the enemy evades a attack you are basically fuck up

As far as leveling up per say, since you are already at the peak of what human physical abilities can be at the end of your training, it wouldn't make sense to become even stronger during your journey, so the leveling up system was scrapped. In its place are the runes you can obtain inside chests or by defeating succubi, which increases your stats. There are also other ways to increase your stats by engaging in events, like with the tribal succubi or with the witch quest.

A tip to make fights more in your favor is to stock up on items before a fight, you can buy a better recovery item and antidotes that cure poison in the first tribe. I also recommend to use Iron Will before every battle with any succubus and use the anti-paralysis herb before the fight with the leaf-hair succubus. If you are struggling with the Spider sucubbus or the witch quest, you can wait until after you beat General Gloriosa to fight them, so that you can have better stats with the runes you've collected by then.

I'm gonna agree with kotlsupp2000

From a story perspective it makes a loose amount of sense (and I phrase that specifically), but from a gameplay perspective it makes for a boring and unengaging combat system. Every battle goes like this:

Defense Magic, Attack, Attack, Heal, Heal, Attack, Attack, Heal, Attack.
Equip new rune, avoid trash fights since there's no benefit to them, get to the next Succubus fight.
Defense Magic, Attack, Attack, Heal, Heal, Attack, Attack, Heal, Attack.

It feels very much like Dragon Quest 1. Where every fight was you trading blows with the enemy, while occasional having to heal. There was very little strategy. Except one thing DQ1 has over SC, is that in DQ1 you can grow stronger by leveling up. Whereas there is no leveling system in SC.

In the latest update I like what Olympus did by adding some side content so you can be blessed with permanent stat increases, but I also don't agree with the idea that since you're at the peak of human physical abilities, you shouldn't be able to level up. There should be a sense of real progression, because as it is now, it's very streamlined.

Further to the point if you look at Monster Girl Quest VN, the progression of Luka's stats was obviously very streamlined, but the strategies for beating enemies varied. It was NOT a perfect system, and I'm not trying to argue that. But the point I'm making is that every battle didn't feel the same. As Luka got new skills, your options for how to approach battles opened up a bit more. You couldn't just attack, attack, heal, attack. You sometimes had to use the right buffs or the right magic for certain fights. You had to think.

If SC is gonna keep this streamlined approach to progression, then I think it needs to do something more in line with MGQ. Some battles should call for different strategies on how to beat the enemy.

As it stands right now the Story, music, artstyle, and H material are gold. But the combat is by far the weakest aspect. Like being served an excellent burger, rich and flavorful, but with a side of soggy fries on the side.

So, when is there gonna be chapter 3 and was the game updated recently?
Work on chapter three started when full chapter two was released. Obviously you won't get a release date that early.

Full chapter two was released 1st August.

I also agree with both of you in that the combat could definitely be better, not so much that battles are sometimes based on luck (which I thought was what kotlsupp2000 was maybe having issue with, maybe struggling a bit defeating the sucubbi, which is why I gave some tips in order to make fights easier), but as you said, right now battles do have the same basic format and they are not engaging and entertaining enough.

If you play it safely and heal every so often in a fight and enter the fight well prepared, imo, you should be able to defeat every succubus even if the rng is not in your favor. But I 100% agree with you that this kind of fight is rather boring, especially if every fight goes like this.

I think the dev is also aware of this issue with the gameplay. I kind of wanted to give the reasons I remember as to why the leveling up system was scrapped, but as it stands right now, the combat is a little lacking. I can imagine it may be hard to make a satisfying combat that is well balanced, entertaining, and that doesn't contradict with the lore of the game that the dev established. I also hope that in the future, some fights deviate from the path that we use right now. I am not expecting this to be the case for all fights, since it is still the first game, but maybe future games can have more entertaining combat. I especially see potential to a different kind of combat when we change eras.

I like how you give examples of two games that also have a more streamlined approach to progression, but that manages to have a better combat than the current SC. Maybe the dev can look into them to get ideas on how to better the combat. If it's not an over the top idea, but instead a feasible idea that someone can make on RPGM, I'm sure they can be taken into consideration.

I'm always looking to improve combat... I think I'm getting the hang of it.
Things will become more polished as I gain more experience, I believe.
It's my first game and balancing things are really hard, definitely the most difficult part of the game.
It's easy to make ultra easy or impossibly hard.
But I'll do my best to improve.

I'm always a fan of getting big rewards if i do good. Beating the spider succubus asap to get that tasty +10 attack rune makes things easier for the remaining succubus of chapter two. Would be nice if you can offer more of those options. Those who are willed to do good (more risk to fail, planning how to defeat a stronk enemy) can smack things easier cuz they proved themselves.

Those who play it easy have to keep up their game to smack the enemies with the available stuff and come back later when they are stronk enough to beat stronk enemies without much effort. A bit of Dark Souls reward system never hurts.^^

Perhaps some sort of difficulty system might be good. That way, people who play for faps can play on easy while the ones looking for a challenging combat experience can play it on normal or hard.

In my opinion, Easy is the current difficulty of the game.
Normal - A new attack for the succubi. They also hit a bit harder.
Hard - A new (ultimate?) attack for the succubi. They hit way harder.

It's just something to think about for the future. Not sure if what I said is possible, but this should help both the combat variety and the difficulty.
