Hello Folks!
As I said in my previous post, there's a BIG change incoming.
Please, take 1-2 minutes of your time to read this, because it's important.
I don't know if you noticed, but between the end of january and the start of february, I was hit by another Massive drop in subscriptions.
I can understand people leaving for whatever reason, like losing interest in the game, or being unhappy about something, even tho the most "popular" choice is the financial issue, which is Totally understandable, especially with all the shit that's going on right now, but not getting ANY new subscription to compensate, Ever, well, that's getting my morale and motivation under the bridge right now.
Even after releasing the new update I barely got a little increase, which disappeared by the end of the month.
So after crying in a corn...ehm..."after deciding on what to do next" I went and asked other fellow devs for some advice, and, well, almost all of them said that I should run away as far as I can from rpg maker vx ace, because it's freaking old, and either upgrade to rpg maker MV, or drop the engine altogether and move to Ren'Py.
Now, I have Zero experience in coding with Ren'Py, and starting from scratch at this point won't be ideal in my opinion, but, on the other hand, I already own a copy of rpg Maker MV...
So, what are the advantages of using MV instead of VX Ace?
- For starters, I can use wharever resolution I want!
With Vx Ace I was bound with a 4:3 aspect ratio, and I had to use an external script to make the window a tiny bit larger too, while with MV there is a built-in plugin to customize the size of the window to whatever I want.
- MULTIPLATFORM!
Yep, that's right! With MV I can finally import my games to other system, like ANDROID! Mac and Linux. And that's something impossible to do with Vx ace.
So, why didn't I move sooner to MV?
Because right now, as you know, I'm making every sprite to looks like it's respective character, and I also make sex sprites to use during events, and that's something I can't do with MV, since it had those Chibi sprites, with Ultra big heads; but thankfully I was given a couple of workaround to still use VX Ace sprites on the new version as well.
The other reason was the fear to not being able to find all the needed plugins, or not being able to customize them as I wanted, since they work in a different way from VX Ace scripts.
It obviously won't be an immediate transaction, since I need to rebuild All the maps, and learn how to use the new plugins, while Stll drawing images for version 0.7; but I've already started stockpiling useful plugins and tilesets to use and I've already built a couple of maps buring the past week, so I won't start from Zero ^.-
I hope you'll understand that this is something that I Really need to do in order to continue, hoping that it will get me to a better situation.
The "corruption discord"?since the game is a corruption game first and foremost in the vein of village of nightmare, i would try to work with the people at the corruption discord
added a couple of screenshots with more..."action", as you suggested!Adding some more screenshots showing the artwork to the first page would help. Going by the screenshots currently up there, I expected the game to be about 1/4 as long (maybe reached the point of character renders and 1-2 scenes) and maybe 1/2 as polished.
Hey I read a lot of your posts, (haven't played any of your games yet though lol, sorry, but I appreciate your dev posts). If you're scared of going to ren'py cuz you think it'll be a lot of work, don't be. It's extremely easy to learn to do basic stuff in, and even more complicated scripting isn't hard, it's mostly just a bunch of simple conditional or incremental variables, label jumps, and you can do stuff like "hotspots" pretty easily as well. You can look at any decent ren'py game on here without a ton of bugs, look at the scripts, and see that it isn't complicated. While a bunch of people dislike XV as opposed to MV (me included) a lot of people just hate RPGM altogether. To the Future, and beyond!

I was about to say—I don't mind the animation but (and this could just be my computer lagging or VX Ace or both) it takes a full 3-5 seconds which is really annoying *especially* when replaying sections. Didn't know about the sound effect because I play with sound off haha. One request during the transition: If possible, maybe let us turn off or somehow speed up the parts where Nikki moves onto the screen and does that pointless boob jiggle with the cartoon sound effect before every line of dialogue. I haven't played too far into the game yet, so I don't know if you stopped doing it later on, but it needlessly slows down every interaction. And I personally find the sound effect honestly ruins any appeal it could have had in the first place, but that's just me.
Personally I would not like the game to be in Ren'py, I prefer the at least slightly more active gameplay offered by RPGM and I despise the godawful Ren'py bubble icon maps where you teleport between rooms without any sense of where they actually are in relation to each other (consider the row of shops in the west end of the city, and Emily's house tucked into the corner of the east end in an alley, and the long walk to the church - this would all be moot). Also certain aspects of the gameplay, like the stealth sections or any time you search for an item, just would not work with the limitations of that engine. Besides, unless you want to totally rework the art for the gameplay you'd have to continue mocking up locations and scenes in RPGM for backgrounds.Hey I read a lot of your posts, (haven't played any of your games yet though lol, sorry, but I appreciate your dev posts). If that's why you're losing people you might benefit from learning Ren'py, which again isn't complicated at all. The only issue might be finding backgrounds if you're relying heavily on the RPGM map system.
I highly doubt it's lag, it just takes way longer to happen than it should. This. Ren'py mostly sucks. even Ren'py games that I enjoy I usually enjoyed in spite of ren'py. There are a few that fit the game style, and straight visual novels with no game and only reading and choices that work well in the engine, but anything resembling actual game play in my experience falls short of interesting as soon as that purple tag is at the front.Personally I would not like the game to be in Ren'py, I prefer the at least slightly more active gameplay offered by RPGM and I despise the godawful Ren'py bubble icon maps where you teleport between rooms without any sense of where they actually are in relation to each other (consider the row of shops in the west end of the city, and Emily's house tucked into the corner of the east end in an alley, and the long walk to the church - this would all be moot). it's actually the basic "jump2" from rpg makerI highly doubt it's lag, it just takes way longer to happen than it should. And I'm pretty sure the sound effect it plays isYou must be registered to see the links.
If it's not too much work, maybe provide a "disable animations" option? I know sometimes with RPGM setting conditionals for all maps/events can be a pain but that's what I've seen other RPGM devs do for people who have issues with some custom animations.it's actually the basic "jump2" from rpg maker
Also, for Nicci animation, it's a total of 2 seconds for the transition
I can cut it down to 1 and something second, but it feels way too fast
What do you think?
