Not true, you have different dialogues with Eve afterwards if you do. Anyway you have to put that you like petting stray cats in the introduction form earlier in the game for being able to pet him.
One thing that bothers me a bit is why Mike isnt Miguel since he (along with Maria) seems to be of Hispanic descent.
