There was talk about her return on the phone. It is not known if it will appear physically. Then the game will probably end. It all depends on the script.
I remember, and curious myself, but I think she will actually show up, it would be a day or two max in-game. And I think it will be important, especially on the Eve route. How that will be handled is anyone's guess.

Scene 32 : Posing in progress.

Posing is still ongoing. I reached shot #81. So far no issues aside from the boredom that comes with posing a static conversation scene. It might sound like a joke but it's actually harder than it seems. The difficulty isn't in the complexity of the pose but rather in creating variety and finding some kind of movement when there is actually none. Correctly posing the emotions on the characters' faces is obviously the most important part of a conversation, but the second-level narration that comes with the body language is what can transform a flat discussion and transmit something bigger than just a dialogue. It's something I try to set up in every discussion scene but it's not always easy.

Rendering is also progressing nicely. The image quality is good with a decent rendering time. So far 5000 iterations have been enough to get a clean result. I do, however, expect more difficulties in the second half of the scene. I will most likely have to pump the iteration count up and therefore, I do foresee an increase in rendering times.

It's already Summer here. This means that rendering is now only possible thanks to the A/C I got installed last year.

Posing is still ongoing. I reached shot #121.

I have lost a lot of time because of a stupid mistake. I loaded an asset (Jack's shorts) with the wrong shaders (rsl instead of mdl) and started posing with it. I didn't notice it until 30 shots later, when Jack's underwear started shining like oiled latex in a random preview. I couldn't see it before because reflections take time to resolve, and when I preview a shot, I usually don't give it enough time to properly render. As always, editing the shots took a tremendous amount of time, solely because of the excruciatingly long loading times that come with the multiple-character scenes. I wasted almost an afternoon on that, but Jack's pants finally ceased shining.

I also made a mistake when cutting the scene. Apparently, basic arithmetic is incredibly hard, to the point that I counted 20 shots more than I actually planned. The correct count is 226 shots planned for scene 32. However, I am considering adding a few more shots in some strategic places. I'll see when I'll get there.

No problems on the rendering front. Shot #82 has been rendered. We are progressing steadily.

Slow progress this week.

I have reached the point where the characters are "interacting" with each other. That means that posing has become fairly more complex and difficult. It is also more interesting, or at least less boring. Movements and actions are always more fun to pose than the average conversation sequence.

I'll soon have to deal with the animations I planned for that scene. That will considerably slow down the rendering. I'm not overly worried about it, but it's frustrating. It's becoming increasingly obvious that animations require an additional workstation for rendering. And this is clearly not the time to invest in some new hardware, especially when I don't have the money for that.

Anyway, rendering is progressing steadily for now.

There are about 70 to 80 shots left to pose, including two animations. I hope to finish it in the next two weeks. Rendering will take some more time.

Thanks for sharing the Progress Reports and Preview Pictures.

Did the dev change his Rendering setup? A lot of the recent preview images look dark (due to lack of light) or have odd lighting. Or are the previews just work-in-progress images and the dev will use post-processing to adjust lighting for the final version of images?

Meager progress again this week.

I wasted a lot of time trying to animate something. That failure led me to rethink some choices. I'm considering dropping entirely the animations for scene 32. I feel like the poses I came up with don't do well with the concept of animations. Difficulty aside, the poses lack amplitude and oompf. It's more of an intimate setting than an overly sexual moment. In that context, I'm not sure I can create anything satisfying when it comes to animated loops. I'm telling myself that I can do something else than the usual mindless pumping but then, maybe I should focus on producing better stills. At least for this scene. I feel like animations are better suited for some more demonstrative moments.

I also lacked time to really work on Summer Scent, this week. And next week will most likely be worse in that regard. Things will be different soon. Starting June, Summer Scent will become my main activity again for at least a few months. I hope to make some good progress. Going back to working full-time on the game should speed up the dev cycle quite a bit.

In terms of numbers, I have reached shot #176 and the posing got seriously intense. Contacts and interactions are difficult to pose. I would love for Daz to add some soft body physics and deformation to its software, that would seriously make things easier. Sadly, it doesn't seem to be on the menu.

Rendering is progressing nicely so far.

It's because i'm trying the harem route.
Then set up a route, i.e. dual love, in the lighthouse. You can be in a relationship with Cassie and Eve at the same time, but not the other girl (sorry, can't remember her name). I'll say that route is the one place where the lighthouse really is helpful, because most choices in the game do make sense, but for any of the dual routes there is a non-obvious choice for whom to talk to during a trip shopping, and one of them starts a conversation that you must have had later. It's not telegraphed that this is the place to have such an important conversation, but if you don't have it, you will get a (very) bad end.

# **Dev Update #301** #


As I mentioned last week, Summer Scent is now, officially, my main and only job again. That should pretty much double the time I'll spend working on it. Let's hope it helps speed up the development.
I have reached Shot #204. The "action" part of the scene is posed. I have about 30 shots left to work on. I'm not entirely happy with the scene as it is. That feeling has been growing on me as I posed it. I feel like something is missing. I might have to add or rewrite a couple of paragraphs at the end of the scene to complete it.
Not doing any animation for that scene was the right call. The poses themselves weren't compatible with movement, and I don't think I could have produced a loop fitting the mood of the scene. That is of course a me problem. If my skills in animating were better, maybe I would have seen it differently.
Being back to full-time on the game, I should have ample time to finish scene 32 next week, posing and coding phase one included, Maybe even the rendering and the post-processing.
I have already started drafting the rewrite of Day 2 Scene 3's script. The original scene was rather brief. The new version will be much bigger and yet very short compared to the more recent parts of the game. Most likely about a thousand words and 40 renders. This should be a swift job. The harder part will be to rework the light on the required sets and find some decent outfits for the girls. I already have something for Eve, but I'd like to find something good and new for Cassie.
