was there any content released this year? when was Ch.5 Beta released?
You see...there was this tax thing...and the Blender fiasco...the new Workstation and GPU's...look...there are thousands of completed renders just waiting to be released...and it's coming really soon, ok? Look...seriously...developing a game isn't easy! Are you even a supporter!?!?!? If you're so good why don't you try developing your own game huh?

Nah but seriously, I think ch5 Beta was last year. The only release of 2024 was basically the censored ch5 Beta that was the Steam release. If I'm not mistaken.

ah yes, the steam release... that came with the last batch of remakes, IIRC, but I'm not sure that counts as "new" content... I guess it's better than jackshit

I am not really a Ocean defender and I have made criticisms to the whole S1, but it is new content. It is frustrating because the story did not moved forward after the Beta, but is 2k+ renders with new scenes, new dialogues. Sure it is a rework but still is new content. Is not only a visual update, for better or worse, is the final version of the S1.

What is the status of the next update? Sorry if this is a very frequent question, I barely have time to follow the thread...
Here you go, the most recent devlog

I think that covers everything better than I can summarise, but a better picture is to look at both the devlogs (for WIaB as well) to get the full picture. At least now, the devlogs have the news common to both, so it gives a decent general picture of what's going on without needing to follow both games (but WiaB has more Katie, so....)

Appreciate the hard work and love the game. But i'm not a native english speaker, man, a little bit overwhelmed and confused by this patch and that patch not compatible. Just wanna fully experience the plot of all the characters by one walkthrough easily.

The story that the author is going to tell the players is the Steam version of the game. Patches and mods restore old fragments of the plot that the author decided to remove from the game and is not going to develop further. If you still want to play the modified version of the game, I advise you to use The Uncut Mod (Taboo Edition if you want the community answer to the question why they always ask why Nami is red) with the Steam version of the game. Just keep in mind that no one guarantees that saves made at the end of the modified game will work correctly and be imported into the second season.

Thx for the reply, damn, it's a lot. Have tried Meushi's walkthrough and using scrappy's mod, found out that there was less content compared to Meushi's walkthrough during the gameplay. So i found out the game may cut a little bit content to list on steam. Scrappy's mod was good in my opinion and it can do multiple paths in just one save, but it was not compatible with the uncut mod and the infamous patch. Meushi's walkthrough was full of some confusing code things, that was a small "headache" to a non native english speaker. If the game can't make you do multiple paths in one save, i will find a easy cheat mod to change it. I am just lazy to load another save to experience all the plot but skipping the major repeated plot. Anyways, thanks for your reply, i appreciate a lot.

Using the walkthroughs and mods together is almost a guarantee for errors. It's a common thing for a walkthrough or mod to finish early because the mod hasn't included the updated material.

So there's a potential that you haven't seen the whole rework even if you've loaded the steam version and applied the mod. It's important to remember that anything fan made such as mods will only work properly on the version they were made for.

Trying to the game to load on my macbook, MAC OSX 15.2, anyone have any luck or suggestions?
Yes, the Steam version runs fine on macOS 15.2 M1 chip. Haven't tested the download here. You can download the , and make a mac version yourself by downloading the pc version of SG here compressed or otherwise, that's what I do for a lot of the games where the mac compressed has been borked.

Most mac versions on this site are made without testing by the devs, it's RenPy doing the porting, not the dev.

Buy a Windows system?
It's Christmas after a hard year. Us mac users have it hard enough ...at least offer us a commiseratory cup of coffee when you say such things :coffee::sneaky:

I'm fine though, plenty of coffee, even if I'm waiting for the two games with Katie.

You're mistaken as always, but who cares. :giggle:

The Steam version was released in May 2024 and featured a complete rework of ch2 with 2000+ new renders for that chapter. So this is not exactly the censored ch5 Beta.
Disagree. But we can go at this for hours, the issue is we have different perspectives on what consists of "new content".

In my perspective, the heist scene has already been in the game for years, the Bella bedroom fight scene has been in the game for years and so has the basketball game scene. Sure renders were added but that isn't new. It's more of the same with slight differences. Essentially what Ocean did is what I used to do in highschool. Add random paragraphs of nothing to my papers just to make them seem longer. I added nothing new or of value. Just another way to say or show the same point I'd already made. In fact I argue he created more problems for himself. The AVN is already a shitshow of continuity issues and fallacies. He added Bella and the MC getting attacked and scratched by a damn cat. Only to have those scratches disappear in the next day somehow. As someone that owns a cat and frequently forgets to trim his claws, that shit stays on you for quite a few days. I guess it would be too on the nose huh? No one could blame Mila anymore when the neighbor that doesn't have a cat suddenly appears full of scratches the day after a house with a cat was broken into...

Now that's not to say your perspective is entirely wrong. But picture this. Ocean could have released the Steam version exactly like the Beta but with a single extra render of the escaped raccoon in some bushes with shining eyes. You could literally say there is new content in that version too and wouldn't technically be wrong. But we both know that, like the rework, it doesn't really, truly count :p

Dude you reaching. It's a fucking AVN. Having scratches of a cat on your body disappearing in a day is no more realistic than MC going from skinny to fit in a week.
The remake was overdue. It was slow, long, and annoying, but it has to be done. And some of the scene are better now. Ocean just took advantage of the remake of some old scenes and added more content.

Perspectives or not, there is a fact - 2000+ new renders. You may not like that they cover almost the same part of the story (although there is a lot of changes, but whatever) but it is what it is. That totally differs from "The only release of 2024 was basically the censored ch5 Beta that was the Steam release." It wasn't basically the censored ch5 Beta, it was the completely reworked ch2.

Why he did this is obvious to anyone with eyes - just put the old and new renders in front of you and you will see that they're just two different levels.
Could Ocean have left the old chapters as is, just put a notice somewhere in the corner saying "sorry guys, this part is visually outdated, I'll definitely fix it to match the rest of the game once the game is completed"? He could definitely do it.

Would he benefit from this? I doubt it very much. He presented his game on Steam to an audience that is completely unaware of all these pretty little disasters and tragedies that accompanied the development of the first season and that cause such unbearable butthurt to some of the inhabitants of this thread. :HideThePain:

So the Steam crowd ate the dish, left a good tip and said "very tasty, give us more!" But would they be so kind if after all these super photogenic advertising renders they saw old Nami in blue pajamas. No, she's cool, of course, but it's not at all what the advertising promised. Or Bella on the meth in the gym, or two different models of Ayua and Mila, or Vic's creepy smile in the cafe? I seriously doubt it. I would definitely think it's some kind of weird unfinished draft, which is definitely not worth the money they're asking for it.

So Ocean calculated everything correctly when he decided to remake the outdated graphics, and at the same time to fix the obvious inconsistencies left over from the dark path and old shit. Of course, he understood that he would cause another immensive butthurt to RNasc and some zoners, well, that's a sacrifice he was willing to make. Frankly, they would still butthurt, no matter what he did, right? :KEK:

You do realize, right, that I am answering not only and not so much for you, but for people who might have accidentally looked into the thread and read all that about " basically the censored ch5 Beta that was the Steam release", about "horrible plot holes", about "atrocious writing"? And you and I have been here for quite a long time and know very well what, how and why happened in the development of this game.

"continuity issues" :KEK: :KEK: :KEK: Comparing to others this game is the pinnacle of continuity. Many mainstream shows with million-dollar budgets have such holes the size of the Mariana Trench, but only for Ocean is this an unforgivable mortal sin. However, if this prevents you from enjoying the game, then alas, I am sorry. For me, these are funny minor flaws that do not spoil the overall impression.

Not to barge in the conversation, and I agree that is a dead topic as is a matter of perspective but not only the tone of the heist scene is different the feel and how it is addressed is different. Same with the Nami conversation if you don't go to Bella or the basket scene if you go to Bella or not. Is different enough to be a new expression of the same work. A single raccoon renders would not change the work to the point of it being a new expression of said work.

Fair point.

And always feel free to barge in. If I'm active in this thread is because I respect and appreciate the input of most users here. Even Yossa's. I undestand his perspective and respect his opinions. I get why he defends Ocean. I just can't be right there on the same boat as him because I see things differently. And that's fine.

As a work of fiction, grounded and based in reality, it should still be somewhat logical, no? Either ir all makes sense or none of it does. You don't get to pick and chose as you wish because "It's a fucking AVN".

This is the thing. Whatever we who have played the alpha of Ch1 through to Steam Season 1 Full think, there are people who have only played Season 1 Full. That is the intention even if the story changed on the way. We're reading the drafts and assuming they are canon, and I'm one of the guiltiest for that. If Ocean could, he'd write the whole game and develop it unseen, and release the entire game. AAA games that come in seasons are ultimately annoying, DLC's are ultimately annoying. The mainstream gamer wants the full meal, then the sequel.

We're privileged and cursed to see it's progress through development. Some devs can just build episodes like a comic, each chapter is done, cring and treasure, move on. Other devs realise some of their weaknesses or have patreons point them out and rush to adjust the game. Ocean solved some problems that were a priority at the expense of some that weren't as big an issue to him. I'm sure he still laments the music licenses he lost and the cool animations he was proud of (the future tub scene with Nami is because Ocean liked that scene too I'm sure).

I'm glad that the game is still in development while a lot of college style games with roomate got cancelled by the service providers in the last year. Why are so many games getting reworks in the last year, why are so many onhold or under review still? The best parts of SG remain to be shown to us, and some of that is due to Ocean being cautious. What happened to WiaB isn't happening here, and that's positive. I still miss certain things, but the overall trajectory of the game is seeming a lot more stable and consistent since Ocean dealt with the rework and got steam out.
