Well, it means that it hasn't been updated in 18 months, which carries with it a whole lot of meaning.
No it doesn't. Abandoned means the developer has ceased development on the product and has moved on leaving it unfinished. But ocean hasn't abandoned it since he provides bi weekly updates on his progress . The abandoned tag in this case is simply just a placeholder for "taking a lot of time". So it is pretty much a misleading tag.

For most people, there's a threshold where, despite a developer continuing to provide devlogs, after so long without any actual updates, they conclude that the probability of seeing an update is so low that they might as well treat the game as abandoned. It does mean that sometimes an "abandoned" game will actually release, but that can also happen with games that have actually been abandoned, but later returned to.

There is definitely room to debate when the cutoff for "this update has taken so long it's time to quit waiting" should be, but unless someone can come up with a pithy alternate tag for "stuck in development hell", and an argument for why we need two separate "this game's not likely to get an update any time soon" tags, "abandoned" is close enough. Also, developers already have a fairly strong financial incentive to avoid actually announcing that a game has been abandoned, so, to the extent anyone cares about the tags on this forum, not giving a further reason to keep stringing people along with promises, regardless of actual progress, is a reasonable choice.

In an extreme example, if Ocean doesn't release a new update for another ten years, but keeps working on the game all that time, the practical effect for most people would be the same as his having actually abandoned development.

I think, while not entirely accurate either, the "On Hold" tag fits these situations better than "Abandoned". Gets it better across that the development is stalled rather than dropped.

Here, I got this for you:

And we have bi weekly dev reports containing the status, what everyone with half a brain cell should tell that this meaning is not worth a single piece of shit...

Soon everything returns to normal. The yellow tag will disappear.
You say that but until he renounces his status as the scope creep final boss theres a 99% chance this situation plays out again

more than enough material to see the pattern in his decision-making

O

On hold means the dev is not working on it during this time that's also misleading
No shit but better than implying development has been dropped entirely. In a situation when development is taking longer than is reasonable/expected, it fits better than outright saying it's abandoned.

I wonder what time frame you consider reasonable for creating over 12,000 static renders and dozens of animations? Six months or a year?

It all comes down to a few things. Like how much time the developer can have, the power of their computer, and such factors. For example, DPC is quite near those figures, and it takes him roughly 1 to 1.5 years. Though he have 24/7 time for it since it his main job, and really beefy pc.

Guys I just watched a reel on Instagram where Guillermo del Toro says he works on multiple films at once because he feels like working only on one it's like blocking yourself.

I remembered about Ocean and his two games and now I'm here posting it.

I just wanted to say it here. Good afternoon. I have to continue with my things :)

I don't even agree with any tag appearing here brother. I'm just saying if you really must have a tag appear after a certain amount of time, why not use the tag that is already at your disposal that is less misleading than the other?

Since people started comparing Ocean and DPC, I'll add a couple of numbers from his logs. During this time, DPC has made two updates, with the first update containing 7,100 renders and about 390 animations, while before that, it made 5,800 renders and 330 animations. In total, that's about 12,900 renders and 720 animations. On the positive side, Ocean has almost caught up with DPC in terms of render count. On the negative side, only 8,000 of the 12,000 renders were made for SG, and Ocean is hopelessly behind in terms of animation count.
