I shouldn't have said complaining, bad word choice on my part. I'm just making an overall observation that he is heavily emphasizing that between the two games he's creating, there has been 10k renders made between both of them, and that his social life has been taking a toll due to it. I would approach it more as of a "dude you should take a break". I couldn't imagine putting all that effort into one game let alone two. His other game just had a release, and the feedback from it seemed very heavy, as in it wasn't received well by others. Kind of stinks seeing your hard work not received well. That being said, constantly working hard doesn't mean you're working smart. When I said it was self induced, it's because ocean is trying to make two games that are highly demanding in time and quality. The dev log just makes it seem like he wants everyone to know how much he's working on it and how much he sacrifices for the games he's making. Great, but no one asked for two games. SG could've been the main focus and could've been a little bit more along in production. To each their own, I wish him the best of luck with what he is doing and hope it doesn't create such a mental toll on him in the end.
The Dev Log is for his $ supporters...
Not everyone.
One of those $ supporters kindly copies and posts it here for 'Everyone' to read.
I'm a $ supporter and I am fine with Ocean sharing a bit of what is going on in his life as well as challenges in hardware, software and how he is spending his time, for example.
I view it as keeping his investors informed.
As far as two AVNs - they are related and - while he did not intend it to work out this way (an old let's call him a 'co dev' - Regium - is no longer working on one of the AVNs) - Ocean decided to continue with developing both SG and WIAB simultaneously.
He has also said that this - working on these two AVNs simultaneously - helps to prevent burnout from working on just one.
Does it mean we all have to be patient for updates - whether a $ supporter or someone here taking it for free - Yes.
Ocean realizes that people want updates out more quickly.
He even commented on it in the last Dev Log:
I get DMs of people asking me to be faster. And if I get a few DMs of it, it means even more think that in silence.
As I told them, cancel the sub until the update is out.
The last thing I want is for someone to build a grudge against the game they like and support because it takes too long.
Ocean's level of quality takes time - but SG is still cooking (versus abandoned) and he intends to stick to his vision for this update versus cutting corners and releasing something that would be substandard compared to other Ocean releases.
Ocean has also said that he will not do two larger than average size updates again so, IMO - we will start to get 2.5/3K updates more quickly than 8/9K updates once he wraps up the very large SG and WIAB updates of this year.
In the end, we get a chance to see parts of a heavily 'redlined' version of each release of SG before it is published but if reading parts of the 'redlined' version of the next rev of SG (via the dev logs) is too onerous, perhaps just wait for the update and not focus on the RL that happens to the dev in between releases.
Cheers!!
