Seems pretty sus to me. If they are gonna release the game in chunks over the next few years, they they probably should be able to release part of it already? But the game has been at 82% forever. I thought the new progress bar was supposed to really reflect what was going on unlike the old one. If this is the case, 0 progress has been made in months. We're gonna get the same content with some tweaks and have to probably wait 2-3 years for new content. What is the point? I feel for the people who defend this scam. I hope you don't get scammed in real life too often!

Ah yes, release the tech update in parts now, so take everything you've already spent 3 years on, segment all of what's already finished out so you can now drip feed what was supposed to be out years ago (say do one chunk every year?), and keep the gravy train going for another decade at least.
It actually doesn't bother me at all, only thing that does is that there are devs who bust their asses every day to make sure they put out decent updates every few months who don't have a tenth of DPC's revenue and are far more deserving.
They want to release a partial tech update because they know they are very far away from finishing. My suspicion is that the final release will be around the end of the year.
So this game is closing on on 8 years of dev time with no end in sight. The last update was over a year ago. WTF is going on with this Dev/Devs. Starting to look a lot like one of those Devs that want to keep the cash on patreon or other sites going for as long as they can.
I don't understand the anxiety surrounding the 'abandoned' tag by DC's apologists: specifically, there's no downside to the game getting the abandoned tag as far as the player-base is concerned. There are basically three possible responses that DC can make to the threat of his game being labeled abandoned, and they're all fine.
Option 1: DC ignores it and keeps jacking off all day every day while collecting a huge paycheck from mor---sorry, I mean, he keeps diligently developing the best update that could possibly exist with super duper exciting characters to be released at some point before or during the heat death of the universe. I.e., no difference.
Option 2: DC updates the fucking game, finally, after a Goddamned year and a half. Maybe it's just one of those incremental 2-month updates he threatened that, like, redoes the intro or something (seriously, what even WAS the plan for the tech update? Was there a timeline for the next update at all? Or was it just 'jack off in Aruba forever, buy a bunch of stonks, and hope I end up rich enough that I never have to do actual game development again'?), but at least there's something.
Option 3: DC throws in the towel, officially labels the game 'complete,' and we all move on with our lives. Which, yeah, it's one of the biggest and highest-quality porn games out there. Stick in a 'the end' frame, make a wedding scene with twenty or so possible lady-sprites in white dresses, and call it a day. I'd accept that. I think a lot of people would.
But for my money, I'd bet on option 2. There's likely to be an update within the next couple days, even a tiny one, just to forestall the possible fallout of this game actually getting labeled on f95 as abandoned. And then I'll probably play the game again because it's a good game, and that'll be completely fine.

If you look closer, you'll see that people who are the supposed "DC apologists" are anything but. In fact, they'll tell you that they're looking forward to the abandoned tag just as much as the "DC negative Nancys" because they know that the tag doesn't mean squat. It also means that when the tag is posted, that those people will have to look for something else to whine about.
And we all know that they'll happily find something else, because they're only here for the negativity.

And now, after 4 friggin years of making the update this guy announces that it will be relased in parts cuz it would not be finishd for at least year or something?
For chroist sake, there are single-person game developers who can make a whole, bigger than SS game from scratch in shorter time for fraction of the funds DC has.

i don't understand the whole "partial tech update" concept. wasn't the main point of the tech update to change the aspect ratio of the entire game to 16:9? releasing that in parts seems very backwards to me, will only a part of the images be in said aspect resolution? but i guess it allows him to drip feed "updates" for longer whilst putting in very little work.

No they will just release the parts that are done. Just think about it as them restarting from scratch and re-releasing all the previouss updates, one by one with the new resolution. Once they do the first partial tech update, that version will be a lot smaller and have a lot less content than the current one.
