No, your argument is that the STS coder is the authority on what Ren`py can and can't do simply because you know he has work experience on the engine. You don't care if he's a poor coder or not, you only care about his experience.
So by that logic you will eat shit from a well-known chef.
No, my argument is that the SS coder is the authority on SS's modified engine. That until that specific someone can produce a better game using that modified engine (or even the basic engine), I'm more likely to not care about his so-called expertise.
But how many of those talking about how easy it is to make games in Ren'py actually have a game made in Ren'py that they actually worked on?
I don't think he's a poor coder. I think he's overworked though. And, to go back to your analogy of shitty food:
I don't expect five star service when going to a place that is open about it's average quality menu. I don't expect Gordon Ramsay to be cooking my food at McDonalds.
I read his posts on Patreon and Discord. I expect SS to have bugs, I expect slower update cycles. I don't have expectations beyond what is said. I know I'm not going to download the first release of the game and will wait for x.1 or x.2 before playing because x.0 is usually buggy. I'm not expecting a flawless update. I'm not expecting a ton of new content on a character rework when said character has a lot of content already.
The problem is that you, and others like you, expect far too much, considering what this game is (a pornographic visual novel).
You (in the general sense) can't comprehend that an update is more than spank-bank material. That you complain when all you get is ten minutes of content because you use Tab to skip all dialogue until you hit the porn scenes or get stuck because you weren't reading.
You act as though SS is the only reason you live because if you don't get an update every four months that has a lot of material to fap to, you'll die. You can't stand the fact that some people have other things to keep them busy during that period of time.
You can't look past the fact his team is pulling in 50,000 a month. You can't understand that only half of that has to go towards the game and the other half can be used for whatever purposes they want.
You can't stand the fact that a lot of people are more free with their money than you are. It's the exact same as people who cry about others buying lootboxes in other video games. You antagonize and berate them for spending their money on something you disagree with.
Lastly, for the patrons who actually do pay something and threaten to pull funding: Go ahead and pull it. Your couple of dollars won't make a difference in development. Until the total income drops below 25,000 a month, all that extra money they're making is going towards whatever they want it to. It might be the game, it might not. Regardless, most Patrons are fine with the update speed and content cycle. He's not going to lose that many Patrons for quite a while, if ever.
