He isn't, but he has a good art style, even if he doesn't update that often you are right the updates are actually good and fleshed out, and he does actually respond to fans.I may not be as hyped for this game as I once was since they kind of botched the 'family' story line (Jenny and Aunt Diane were my favorite characters and their updates were extremely underwhelming), but DC is one of the best devs out there.
What would you have him do differently or improve upon? What would it take for your to see him as a good dev and not milking? He isn't, but he has a good art style, even if he doesn't update that often you are right the updates are actually good and fleshed out, and he does actually respond to fans.
I think that's the problem: people get too defensive over the word "milking" when it's done to a creator. But he is a milker! What he isn't, like so many creators, is a gritter or overly ambitious/naive. He didn't and won't do two more updates, than just make patreon posts for two years and get a paycheck. He wasn't someone who came in with good intentions but between sloth, overreaching, and a lack of dispiline, put himself in a corner or break his own game so badly it would take a year to self correct.
He is successfully making a quality game, even if he probably is doing it at a damned lesiurable pace. I think for his own sake, because eventually this game is going to come to end and by then he might get bored/burnt out of making games, pick it up a bit or hire more part timers to get the best of both worlds: but he actually is fucking making this game. Unless something terrible happens, it will be finished and people will be playing it for a while.

Depending on how they set their work flow up, they could done with most of the programming before the art is done. I'd love a peak under the hood at how they do things. I know in the past they said the part of the problem is old code that's the dickens to clean up and that they've been ignoring. Supposedly some of that is cleared up now though. Not going to lie, I laugh how long it takes the programmer to finish his part of the job for something that is effectively a visual novel. Programming should never be the bottleneck for something this simple. It happens everytime to.
Patreon was very clear to DC. If he puts it in the game, makes a patch or otherwise endorse it or makes it avaliable by his company or employees or anyont officially associated with him he is instantly banned. There is 0 Tolerance on Patreons side. DC said if it ever comes to the point they think of something else to shut him down we all should not worry according to him cause he has a backup plan if that ever happens. Yet he never mentioned what that plan actually is.The only thing I can think of and that's me being selfish, is have him restore incest to the game and get off Patreon because it's holding him back creatively. It's the reason the game got popular in the first place and has a direct impact on the story as well as the reason the Aunt Diane and Jenny updates were bad story updates generally speaking.
I can't remember which engine it was before Renpy but the game was original made in 2016 by DC alone for him to actually learn how to code anything. If we take that into account it must have been a nightmare for someone who actually can code to watch at that and fix that stuff without losing everything in the process. Not going to lie, I laugh how long it takes the programmer to finish his part of the job for something that is effectively a visual novel. As far as i know the old code got mostly cleaned up by now but it was quite a problem as you said they ignored it for a very long time till it got to the point of "we can't ignore it any longer"Depending on how they set their work flow up, they could done with most of the programming before the art is done. I don't think it's a visual novel. There's currently eight (mostly) separate paths with quests and mini-games.Not going to lie, I laugh how long it takes the programmer to finish his part of the job for something that is effectively a visual novel. Just do add, he did it as a kind of mini tutorial the last ~30 min of the stream, where he explained how and why he uses certain techniques. It's still available onFrom stream yesterday. Still think it looks amazing.

Visual novels often have mini games and multiple pathes.I don't think it's a visual novel. There's currently eight (mostly) separate paths with quests and mini-games.
