People have been moaning that since day 1, it keeps going up since then. Empty point failedActually, the strategy of doing as little as possible as long as the people pays ain't that bad. One day he'll lose the patreon subscribers, but as long as he doesn't spend the money in stuff, it's alright.
Take 4-5 dudes coding junk on top of each other for years, then get a 6th new dude and ask him to take all that and start from scratch, then pile on all the new 16:9 backgrounds/new locations/every scene re-posed/add future-proof stuff to help later builds and then make him do that part timeCode being the most extensive job here is kind of confusing. From my experience with code the sort of stuff they're doing isn't super taxing (though its been years since I tried my hand at it). Usually art is what takes the longest time to iron out all the wrinkles.
Posing however I totally get why that's a problem. One of the biggest time sinks on our last few projects.
Guess you missed the last 5+ years of dev time : art is longest but always 1st thing done. 2nd point in quote : aside mini-updates (like Daisy) nothing ever happened in ~2 months, you being positive it'll only take 1 more month when everything else is at least 4 doesn't make it reality. Also lol at "coding shouldn't be that long" : it's only been more than a year and it's not even 50%, good job thinking it'll achieve the other half in a monthLooking at the progress table you can clearly see that art and posing are the longest bits to do, maybe the rest is easier to get it done...
That's why I said maybe only 1 month left of work. Coding shouldn't be that long and since art and posing are basically done I'm positive about it.
It's not just Joiplay that is slow to launch, seems to take about 5 mins to launch on PC, I was blaming Naughty tribute, because I assume it was doing something to the gallery of images, but Last update I play without it ffor a little while and it was still slow to load. All i know is i hope that after the code is updated, it doesnt take 10+ min to launch in Joiplay. (The last time took 11 and a half minutes.)
This is by far the slowest launching renpy game ive played, and i suspect it is all due to under the hood issues.
It's simple. There are a lot of objects in the game archive file that must be loaded into memory before the game starts. Moreover, the weaker the computer hardware, the more time it takes. It's not just Joiplay that is slow to launch, seems to take about 5 mins to launch on PC, I was blaming Naughty tribute, because I assume it was doing something to the gallery of images, but Last update I play without it ffor a little while and it was still slow to load.
I have no idea why, can anyone shed light on this?
I guess the other games I play must be light weight, but even compared to AAA games like Cyberpunk, this feels slow. It's simple. Unlike most Renpy games where images and videos are pre-made, there are many overlays that are compiled each time to create images and animations.I guess the other games I play must be light weight, but even compared to AAA games like Cyberpunk, this feels slow.
But nevermind, it is what it is.
Aside the game telling you where to look, this isn't the walkthrough thread. You'd get deleted if the mods were doing their basic jobhey ppl! does anyone know where to find LOCKER MASTER KEY ?

Startup time depends on various things, first of all your hardware. Some figures:I guess the other games I play must be light weight, but even compared to AAA games like Cyberpunk, this feels slow.

My gerbils need more caffeine: 70 seconds is my performance for a 9 year old i7-3770@3.40GHz, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD40 seconds for any start thereafter

I agree that five minutes does seem hyperbole for a computer on which a person can play Cyberpunk (my graphics card is about a year too old)
It's not that you attacked the game - it's that your observation lacked proper specificity. When people use generalizations in what appears to be a complaint on a game - it attracts both whiners looking for sympathy and kinship in misery, as well as those who want to make things clear so that such responses are quickly nipped in the bud.well
So tell me more about my Hyperbole?
- I never said took 5mins I said it FELT like around 5 mins, I've never timed it.
- My CPU is a bit older than yours i7-2600, but I got 64GB Ram, and a relatively new GPU, (I got an i9-10850 sitting around somewhere too but the motherboard got fucked, hence the ram and GPU with my ancient CPU)
- No SSDs, I got 2 good old fashioned HDDs
Edit:
I asked a simple question about why Summertime Saga took so long to load, which was answered by twichman & Omnikuken saying that there a large amount of data getting preloaded into memory.
Why is there now an accusatory vibe going around now? Like I'm attacking the game or something?
And now the most interesting My desktop is being repaired, and while waiting for parts from distant China, I use an 11 year old laptop. Here is its configuration: Pentium P6200 2x2.133 GHz with integrated graphics, 8 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD Yesterday I specifically measured the SS loading time (with the Naughty Tribute mod installed), the result is 1 min 33 sec. Funny, right?well

All this talk of hyperbole regarding start times, i literally started a stop watch before my previous post, so that i wasnt just pulling a "feels like" number out of my ass.
It took 11 and a half minutes to launch in Joiplay. And even once it was launched, it was very sluggish and laggy.
Now, i will accept that im running this on an older phone (Galaxy S7, for whatever it's worth), however *my* point is that compared to all other renpy games, many of which are just as big as this, if not bigger, this takes far longer to launch than anything else ive played. To the point i have to wonder if it will ever start or is going to crash.
That speaks to either a coding issue, how it's packaged, or something else under the hood. Which was the only thing i said. Hopefully, after they do yet another pass at the code, etc, it will improve launch times.
you mean one of the exact things they have been working on for more than a year that people are bitching about taking so long, the complete overhaul of the code? as well as the full game going to 16:9 for mobile users. That speaks to either a coding issue, how it's packaged, or something else under the hood. According to DC, that will never happen - she is involved with the Captain and he doesn't share. All the female characters in this game I prefer the Captain's wife , I wanna bang her so hard.
