I think the problem is not DC at this point. He draws every day.
DC is definitely a problem, first of all he mostly draws stuff that is really not needed for the game when he could have completly finished the art assets for the rhonda, annie, judith and a couple more character routes completly by now but it seems like he rather doodles wallpapers, new side characters, ultra detailed interiors for every side's characters home and shit like that

second it looks like he doesn't give a fuck what the rest of the team is doing, i honestly doubt he even knows what his coder is doing all day as long as the money rolls ins

He's actually been working on assets for many characters that need it, including Rhonda, Annie, Mrs. Smith, the lifeguard, etc. Just because he releases wallpapers doesn't mean those are the only things that have been keeping him busy. He's had a period when it hadn't dawned on him yet that the tech-update was gonna take a prolonged time, so he was literally doodling on stream and saying "I have nothing to do". But thankfully that period was short and a while ago, and now he seems to be pretty productive.

Interiors have always been part of the game, and giving some characters' homes interiors in advance of their inevitable update makes perfect sense. The detail to them is fun and appealing. If you'd rather have a stale environment then you can find plenty of those kind of games on this site, but there's a reason SS is so successful and games that are churned out with no heart get abandoned at 0.1.

new side characters
This really bugged me too when he still did this, DC had a period where he would add new side characters instead of completing the unfinished ones, or add in the missing content that's still not in the game until this day. I haven't seen him work on new characters all that much but I do know he's added a couple. Hopefully they'll remain as purely functional characters until the game is near finished and they get some scenes or something.

second it looks like he doesn't give a fuck what the rest of the team is doing, i honestly doubt he even knows what his coder is doing all day as long as the money rolls ins
Yeah, I don't think he has any oversight of what's happening either. But we're all on the same page here, he's just not good at managing or making a game.

i remember when people where saying the assets for the rhonda story are completly finished 2 years ago or so and just a couple weeks ago he did more stuff for the lifeguard. i bet once the tech update is out he will still need a couple months working on art for the rhonda update when he should have more or less completly finished art assets for the next 5 character routes with how much time he has.

yeah but there is a middle ground. he was literally working for weeks on the interior for the lighthouse. not every side character needs his/her own ultra detailed toilet that resembles their personality you know what i mean. especially if he could have finished the art assets for multiple main characters by now so that most of what's left once he gets to rhonda, annie and so on is posing and coding

yeah for example the cafeteria lady. was she really needed when we have so many side characters with zero content? what about the indian doctor from the hospital? i haven't played the game in years so i barely remember most characters but there were a bunch of them like this

the big problem is that he also doesn't want to get better or have oversight over the project. his coder could literally work an hour a week and he probably wouldn't care or notice

the real question is why can't users move on? too many new A.I. art style games for your liking/distaste?
To me it’s like a yearly tradition at this point if I remember it. It’s not because I pop into this thread expecting the game to be finished or gain anything new from the endless cycles of discussions that have raised every single point possible. We can’t be surprised that people still pay for this, LEGO should’ve taught everyone that nerds have too much money on their hands. That’s how it is.

For me it’s a fun little blast from the past, and a reminder that if you make something that’s good enough for the time in which it was made, you have a shot of living off of that achievement for a long ass time. No matter the media/format.

Edit: Holy balls I did remember busting a nut to this when I was young but I had forgotten that this was posted here in 16, 8 fucking years ago! No wonder the creative drive got a little stale kek.

Well, who ever said that, was really wrong back then. DC never claimed it and it obviously wasn't the case - at least I recall him mentioning a long time ago, that he hoped to have about half of Rhonda's art completed at the end of the tech update. But given that it's been a year or so, it may have changed.

Honestly, that's not on us to decide - at least not as long as he's sticking to the original concept. If he wants to add more detailed art/backgrounds, that's really on him and it's on his patrons to vote with their feet.
Especially if you consider, that most of these backgrounds are actually really nice and that the single downside is, that creating them takes time. But that's only a problem for those who are waiting now - people who are going to play the game for the first time in the future, will have a blast seeing them. At least as I see it now, the tech update will increase the overall art quality significantly.

I mean, the cafetaria lady probably exists to free up Kevin for content. Ultimately non of these minor characters really matter in the big picture. Sure, he will have wasted quite a few weeks in total on characters which aren't needed, but does that really matter looking at the big picture? Most of these side characters are good for the game and make at least a few people really happy.

the big problem is that he also doesn't want to get better or have oversight over the project. his coder could literally work an hour a week and he probably wouldn't care or notice
I still think that in DC's mind everything is ok, as long as he's drawing new stuff for the game. It's up to his patreons to see if that's enough or not.

What is the update going to do for the game anyway? The game had a lot of content as is, so I'm not pressed on the wait, but I am curious what is going to be the benefit of it?

Allegedly it will standardise the codebase for quest progression, posing dialogue scenes and monitoring the gamestate, as well as making all the art 16:9 resolution. It's claimed this will make future development and bugtesting easier/faster. This was deemed necessary as the game had been incrementally built up from multiple lead programmers implementing quests/scenes via very different, confusingly-interlinked methods over the years -- re-doing everything so that it all works via the same mechanisms would, in theory, make future work simpler and the code less prone to bugs.

In reality I doubt the pace of updates will be any faster than they were before the tech update. But once you commit to refactoring the game like this, you're pretty much stuck with it. I suspect if you'd told DC ahead of time that the tech update would take this long he never would have bothered rigging the poll results for it to win. Game is stuck in a quagmire as a result.

It was going to happen sometime - even if DC was told it would take the time it has. The only choice was whether it was going to be before Rhonda's update or after it. Now, they might have planned (hahahahahahaha) to handle it differently - but it would have happened, either way.

What if the tech update happened years after the Rhonda update and other girls content, was that ever a chance of happening or DC was set to start the tech update right away?

You've read the comments on this thread by j4yj4am and username7. You already know this answer. The game code was shambles. The images were 4:3 display ratio and DC's biggest (and/or fastest growing) market is the android market which is better suited for 16:9 display ratio.

The poll choice was between:

Rhonda Update
Tech Update
Other Updates

OR

Tech Update
Rhonda Update
Other updates

Waiting years to do a tech update does not appear that it was ever in the cards. The fact that they took time to put out an updated APK for the current content - v0.20.16 - recently of the Android 14+ (because the APK up until the last month was having issues with Android 14+) shows that waiting years would have been detrimental for the game's continuance.

Making the APK compatible for Android 14+ superseded work on the tech update. That's the importance of the mobile gaming market for DC.

Yeah i know,my post was just me coping on a alternative reality where we would be playing new updates in the old version instead of this never ending wait:HideThePain:

its literally summertime saga HD remake. zero new content. tbh it should be listed as complete and the tech update under a new game.

To be fair, that "no new content" really only means that there won't be a huge new story. Most backgrounds, locations, etc. will be extended and a lot of assests will be changed/added into existing content and there'll even be some new characters. So you'll probably see something new in basically every part of the game you are looking at. By the end of it, most art asstets will have been reviewed and possibly improved.

I mean, it would just have meant that they'd have to rework even more content for the tech update. As such it made sense to start the tech update as soon as the decision had been made to do it in the first place.

What DC should do while the coder(s) takes his/their time, is finish all the art for the old characters and their routes, as well as do the art for the prom.
