If someone tells you they know the story there’s no need to walk the memory lane. So if you were trying to look smart in the other ppls eyes — maybe it worked.

Comparing is very legal, guess why? Breeding season reincarnated into Cloud Meadow. At the early stages of CM, even the BS assets were re-used. Long story short, how CM is doing? lol. Those “champions of productivity”. They ended walking the same BS land mines.

Unfortunately, you cannot make adult conclusions which are — once a title undergoes the so-called tech update/reimplementation it’s the core sign of inevitable strolling into oblivion.

Here’s one more example.
Remember Eromancer with Malise and the Machine? Different title same story.

Some artists were good. While they delivered. Once the delivery stops and suckers start paying for tech updates or the slick learning a new engine — this means that the title is dead or the plan is to get double dip by dropping this on Steam.

So far, being able to deliver a title however buggy it may be and move one to a new one is the sign of a serious person.
Even ICSTOR managed to carry Mify City to a conclusion.
And the only real professional studio/artist in this area is NLT Media. They get shit done and do it in a very coherent and organized manner.
Don't forget y.v. developing Space Journey X. He's been great on delivering content and meeting his published deadlines.

Does anybody know how many tech updates will be?
Currently, there is only one tech update: v21.0.0
However, they are releasing the preview of the Work In Progress (WIP) of what they have completed in chunks every other month.
The actual work on the tech update is currently on hold until the Debbie route and artwork is revised, reworked and the pregnancy route is added. Once that is done, it is expected that work on the tech update will resume.
No one knows how many bimonthly releases this will take.
Nobody.
Not even the development team.

Strictly speaking, there's no value (to DC) in moving onto a new project, even with all the goodwill and reputation from being the SS guy. He'd be starting from scratch in terms of there being no h-scenes in-game, and unlike this tech-update-limbo, there'd be no pre-patch version of the game with a load of scenes he could point people to while they wait. Infinite redevelopment of SS is a much easier position to be in, in terms of handling the community/patron reception -- he has unlimited "work" to show progress for as he slowly re-adds old content, and if anyone complains about the lack of content people can just point them to 20.16.

He's kind of in the free-money sweet spot right now. Sure it's not his revenue peak, but (as shown) the situation where he was earning that much wasn't sustainable
Yes, there is always a very incredibly obvious argument for being lazy and coasting forever in life, I suppose.

havent played in years, did they reboot this game? lot of characters are missing.
The famous Tech Update. Basically a rework of the whole code, which was a mess. But It took longer than they estimated, so they have split it up into parts. It's also gonna be a while until they catch up to where they were, so you're better off playing the version before the Tech Update, at least content wise.

This is a free game not locked behind a paywall btw. Also from what I heard dc has long since planned a "never ending" game.
I mean, its never ending now because he basically reset it. And the last 4 Tech updates have been an infinite Debbie loop

That's actually the sad thing. DC found the easiest way to squeeze the money out of his patreon supporters. Why change the model on which he could earn money.
Sustainability. "This is making us lots of money" =/= "this is always going to make us lots of money."

If you wait until your cash cow dries up, it's too late. It is 1,000 times easier to start something new with a huge existing fanbase than to earn back your fans - for your current project or a new project - once you've run your reputation into the ground. And that's exactly what's going to happen. It won't be a huge, sudden crash, but I guarantee he's already started slowly bleeding patrons. That trend is going to increase.

Smart money is to begin a new project when you're getting close to finishing your current game. Star talking about being in the home stretch for your current project. Lay out a "road map to the finish line." And while you're hyping everyone up for the new release, simultaneous start talking about what's next. Use the buzz you've got going for your current project to get an accelerated launch on your new project.

Yeah, that's why it is SAD. I kinda mentioned that before on this thread. He could wrap this a push his other ideas on a new game. Like other creators that finish stuff and move on. We got soo many examples here on this forum. But hey, DC is content with being mediocre and only known for this game. Who the hell am I to judge his decisions, even though it really looks bad.

New projects can eventually dry up the cash flow, too. Especially if said new project just end up being more and more of the same. It's why NLT's series is being received more and more on a meh level.

Over the years I have managed to start a family and get divorced.
Успеешь еще раз жениться и развестись, но техническое обновление будет закончено, дай боже, на половину

NLT's model is not comparable at all. He has made about 3 million from releasing his 3 games on steam. It was about the time that he started doing this that his Patreon revenue started flatlining and then declining. For selling games on steam at least, new projects + seasons will always be profitable.
