Also, Jake is mindraping everyone near him just by existing.
Humm...I really don't understand this one, Jake doesn't use his powers to harm people around him passively, or even to mind control them. The only passive power (just by existing) he has is to make people miss attacks against him, everything else depends on him wanting to do something, not just being around.

Jake's power protects him from an array of various situations. People don't register his bad behavior for example. They need to be Superhumans of similar or higher power than him to really understand that their free will has been compromised. They just rationalize everything wihout blaming him.

I will have to disagree, as an example just before his second evolution he is confronted by Mia questioning his actions, how he is being antagonistic to Mc and his relationship with Ella.
If he passively changes peoples perceptions of his actions he definitly should get free of something like that since she is just human, her free will was definitly not compromised at that point, she only was affected after he decided to use his powers on purpose.

This isn't a good example because it's explained that Jake's powers work relative to his mindset. That's why he couldn't affect Mia and Jared (in the beginning). Jared in particular kept calling him fat even after his transformation till Jake got control of him. Yet he passively altered the perceptions of the whole college when he was transformed into a Superhuman. Everyone rationalized it as weight loss. Also Jake never actively used his power on MC, yet MC couldn't figure him out despite the overwhelming evidence that he was Ella's pupil.

Jake himself comments on that during the prison scene.
You "Not anymore, fat boy."
scene prison 18 with dissolve
Jake "!!!"
show prison 16 with dissolve
Jake "I see. So, you can now acknowledge what I used to be. Interesting, I implanted that order a long time ago."
Jake "You know, I didn't even do it intentionally. I just woke up one day, and no one even noticed or cared that I was suddenly no longer fat. I could hardly believe it."

I guess you do have a point, i did remember the weight loss situation and how everyone just accepted it, so definitly an example of "perception alteration" but since it's so harmless i didn't think it was a good example of the initial idea (mindraping by existing) but Mc failing to realize Ella and Jake's link is much better since it could be potentially harmful.
That's also the case when Liz and Amber took off their clothes, Mc only resists if he reaches a certain amount of power so it does have to do with how much a superhuman affected have.
And since the only regular humans i remember resisting his powers are Jared and Mia and both have narrative reasons to that, i agree with you though i wish we had more examples of Jake passive mind control.
Thinking about that he used his power (on purpose) to convince Alexis that it was ok to to show HERO's lab, but when Clark arrived he immediately realized that he shouldn't be there, it's the same if Mc doesn't have enough power during the clothes situation he also doen't see anything wrong. On Alexis case it was something subtle and not really glaring so he can get away with small things, on Mc's case it was obviously lack of power.
Thanks for your insight man.

I swear to god, this Hexenringe is a walking plot device preventing this story from ending in 2 minutes View attachment 4223294
Well not really, maybe he's a mcguffin for the current plot arc but you have to understand that there're easily more powerful and terrifying existences out there so he isn't really that much. Also it's quite well done, it's not like they can't catch it or kill it but doing so alerts everyone so they have to tiptoe there

Np, truthfully some powers are a bit too arcane and WW tends to have this progression for his characters where they struggle a lot with their power early, with a lot of detail on why they fail to apply them, and after a while they just work, even in a manner that seems a bit too extreme.

This might be a late response however he passively mindfucks people who are weaker to him. This seems to wear off when you get near his POWER LEVEL and totally wears off if you are stronger and think about that you are getting mindfucked. The only exception I can see is that when Ella told him that he can slowly fuck with someones mind WHILE THEY ARE NOT SUSPECTING IT. The moment the piercing girl suspected him, she broke the link and fucked him up.

I'm curious about just how broken Jake would be like if he ever reach level 5. Could be absurdly broken like being able to command things not to exist ala Mum forgetting attacks or hell the opposite where he commands things to exist could be possible. + all his MC BS on everyone other than level 5s.
Literally authority. Absurdly broken. Anyone having relation to the 1st apostle are overpowered. Like Charlie for example.
Back to Jake, as a lvl 1 can already influence a lvl 4, the spike lady, if I recall correctly, albeit by only making small suggestions, still though, that's a feat in itself. Only a handful can resist it, and at lvl 2 he can take over a damn city, the utility and range of its might is mind boggling.

So yes, if Jake reached lvl 5, he would be annoying to deal with. But will MC lose???

Honestly, probably... Nah, he'd win.

Here is my speculation:

Jake level 3 - He don't need to find and look at someone neither need to make them hear commands, that was one of his weakness, his authority would work in area.
Jake level 4 - Probably would turn him omniscient in his area of effect, and make it bigger.
Jake level 5 - His authority would affect anything.

Keep in mind MC ALREADY LOST to Jake in the prison and only came back to his senses after the eye was ushering him to not be controlled by the first one.

In a rock paper, scissors sense, I would say Memory should completely dominate, the ability to restore based on memory or to feed on memories should be a terrible match up for Authority.

When fighting Jake the MC had been neglecting it.
