I'd guess the opposite. Amber has all the Undine traits, whilst Liz solely has Strength Eater traits.
Speaking of Undines, thinking about
Dinoflaggelate and
kibaris' back and forth, I have a theory of my own. I'm beginning to suspect that Undines are actually somehow fragments of the great Ocean. The way the monster report keeps talking about "reunification" and how they're "cut off from their greater body" makes me think that they don't live in the great Ocean, but they
are the great Ocean, and that it's actually an intergalactic genius loci that assimilates living organisms into it. The Undines might hate Minyaks because they're akin to a foreign hivemind with undesirable traits to them. Minyaks are asocial, have immiscible oil as their power and their permanent fusion cripples their lifespan; Undines are social, manipulate water and live forever unless killed.
As to how Amber relates to Undines, I truly don't know. I have a couple ideas. of possible reasons for it. More mundanely, Tanos' drugs might have massively messed with the twins' development. Alice has shown monster-based medicines can affect superhuman development.
Alternatively, the light that appeared to Amber could be what caused her ascension, not the actual Strength Eaters. The MC himself can suggest that something else turned Amber rather than a Strength Eater. Liz died before Amber did, and we've seen with Michael's encounter with Power that there's a sort of override that the upper echelons of monsters have. All that exposure to Leigong powers and material, and yet he's nothing like Met. What that light was is up in the air, but considering the parallels between Amber and Michael, it might be some sort of avatar for the great Ocean itself. Adding to this is the in-universe description of Strength Eaters as emissaries from the MC extracting memories.
Operating off the assumption my theory about Undines is correct, it'd explain Amber's inability to touch the tainted water in the Monster World, her ability to absorb MP and the memories that neither twins should have within them. For the first, a superhuman's powers protect them foremost, so avoiding assimilation is definitely something her water manipulation would instinctively activate to avoid. For the second, Tanos implies that the ability to absorb MP isn't an intrinsic part of Strength Eaters' powers, but the water-based teleportation
is. So perhaps strength eating is a boon given to the M52s by the Ocean itself for their worship and emissary work, akin to Ella's eyes or the MC's increased sapience in his liquid state. If she was directly infected by the Ocean's avatar, it might give Amber the ability by default. And for the third, the memories the MC was seeing might be from Amber's connection to the Ocean itself, being a sapient, individualistic fragment of it like the Undines. Though none of this would explain why Undines possess core traits.
