I assume that monster energy comes from this higher plane that the Apostles/Arbiters come from. Apostles and Arbiters can access this energy directly, meaning they have infinite capacity and are only really limited by the speed at which they can draw energy from that plane. Whereas Superhumans must use the natural processes of the body to create that connection to the higher plane and generate monster energy. Evolutions are, therefore, significant structural and metaphysical improvements of the body's ability to access that higher plane.
Some part of it must have to do with how the Apostles are linked to the fundamental aspects of existence itself. Perhaps superhumans and monsters alike draw upon the forces inherent to the universe in accordance to whatever Apostle trait(s) they are tied to. Concepts of things like Power or Darkness or Creation probably mold the superhuman associated with them as they're evolving, granting them a greater grasp of the concept not only in their mind but their body as they progress and continue to embody the concept more and more.

As requested by zZorua, an unofficial android port:

I had to use a compressor to get it under the 2GB file limit of Android, and I had to fix game/scripts/day41.rpy ('scene black with dissolve: ' should be 'scene black with dissolve' so without ':' at the end). It should work fine, but I can't make any guarantees.

Bernhardt, Henri and Malik are survivors from other monster invasion cycles or something? They seem much stronger than the Chosen. One of the bad ends i got was 'ascending' but still getting 1 shotted by Bernhardt. Plus Malik seem to be searching for his people on a dead planet in his dream.

According to Malik, Dexter's father found him living on the streets as a human and turned him into a superhuman. So he couldn't be at least.

I understood that scene as maybe Malik was searching various planets for our displaced group.

I was under the impression that it was a dream conjured by Aglaecwif when Malik was trying to rescue Alexis, she was offering to show him the truth. In that dream on the dead planet he was lamenting his dead brethren and his faith. Which kinda makes me think the trio superhumans might be from another world that succumbed to the monster invasion. However it seems they all got infected with their superhuman powers while in this world and their ages don't add up too, so that assumption might be wrong. I just find the trio Bernhardt, Henri and Malik to be mysterious outliers. Their powers are superior to Chosen that have thousands of years of mutation or multiple cycles of experience. Mind you they don't even get selected to be Chosen, not sure how they avoided that or avoided the eyes of the Apostles. No way in hell they can be that strong without having some kinda insane background. Henri's background at least seems to be connected to the vestige(a dead human civilization) and they refer to him as the ultimate weapon that can contend with the Apostles, so i guess he is a reincarnation or he found that weapon/artifact and became strong.

Code:
Aos "There are 12 core traits that exist within monster kind. Stemming from 12 great entites."
Aos "There are 12 genetic lines that exist within monster kind. Stemming from 12 great entities."
Okay so apparently the public update corrected all instances of "core trait" with "genetic line". Weird pulling some shenanigans again.

In this update, how do the serum challenge and Liz party scenes differ?
I wouldn't let MC help Liz, so
1) Deryl said he had been developing the serum.
2) Liz wondered what would have happened if she ingested it.

Is either a dream created by Glae, or Malik is on a research mission on Planets already invaded, used and disposed(but given his personality he most likely search for any possible human survivor), he along Bernhardt and Henri would be the only ones able to carry on such task alone(safely) just needing Nico drooping them on the proper star system.

But no, Malik and Bernhardt are not from a previous cycle, their strength is an outlier yes, but on the latest update, the Silat(MC's mother monster species)mention that the Great Queen of the Sky Humans, despite being initially a Spawn, grow up to be something else, something without definition, Malik and Bern are probably the same, more or less.

About Malik talking to his Brothers/Sisters, those could be anyone, though i'm leaned to believe they were other members of M-Division, Bernhardt after all does call Malik "Brother", and we don't know truly how close the Captains are to one another.

What's the overarching story anyways?

From what i can gather, the monsters and apostles are continuously invading planets & civilizations in a cycle of destruction & propagation of their species. But with the monster world arc, the things corrupting the sky and the ocean, it feels more like the monster tide is running away from something therefore invading different worlds to move(run away to) into. Possibly outer gods not from their universe or dimension? It was mentioned there are other gods besides the ones in this reality. So, besides the 12 Apostles and the 6 Arbiters(i assume these are the progenitors of the Apostles?), there are outer gods like the one worshipped by Strength Eaters or the Outer Twins & God slayer etc. Or maybe it's a free for all, and every god is competing to eat as many worlds as they can.

Seems the monsters are trying to create a vessel or a ritual to allow their Apostles to descend. I'm guessing it's to lead their species and also to fight the outer gods/corruption or something? But the Apostles are also kinda busy playing politics against each other.
And then we got Chosen who betrayed the Apostles, trying to stop them and the destruction(possibly also to fight the outer gods/corruption). Surprisingly more than half the Chosen are betrayers. Aglaecwif wants a child that can kill the gods.

I don't know about Monsters fleeing from something(though, sound cool), but you are right about Gods outside the Apostles existing, Valravn mention *Two Parasites* and Ella explain further on the multiple Clasifications of Gods, one of them being Alien Entities from outside the Universe/Spheres of Existence.

Not to mention the Chaos Memory of last update, that seem to suggest that some Arbiters were warped into Twin Apostles, my guess is that the ones that did so were the Outer Twins. There is also Deus, he seem to be playing on a larger scale than the cycle of monster invasion/ocupation, has constant nightmares about "the terrors of this universe" and apparently has an extremely weird nature for a Superhuman, my favorite ''theory" about him is that Deus is the Spawn of one Alien God, hence his strange powers(Time related for example, while he himself almost directly denying being related to the 5th Apostle whose Domain is time) and knowledge beyond Ella's

Hmm...this seems familiar.
