Devlog 100(1.0 next update?)
Hey all, how's it going.
Doing a devlog, just talking about what's been going on, what I've been thinking about as next update comes together, strap in, it's gonna be a long boy.
Basically, next update is gonna be a long one. Possibly a really long one, but we'll get into that. I've talked about 1.0 for a pretty long time now, the update where I'll be remaking the early game, fixing up art, adding new content, new choices, making old choices do more shit, etc. Obviously that takes a lot of work, but I've been chipping away at it for some time now. Is it ready now? Not really, I'd have to do a lot of shit for it, but it's not impossible that I'd get it ready for next update.
As for next update itself, I'm in kind of a weird position. It's gonna take a while, I'll get that out of the way first, whether I update the early art or not, I've got a fuckload of work ahead, some of the shit I have planned is pretty art intensive, so a lot of drawing, and then the writing itself will be difficult to get right and feeling good, so that'll take a while too. On top of those two things the update itself is prob gonna be real long as it will likely reach to the end of the game. So naturally, due to these reasons we're probably looking at a while before it comes out. Not a Being a Dik while, but maybe an Eternum while, quite a bit of time.
Kind of a side note, but also related. I played Dispatch lately only stream, enjoyed it, was a great time. Looked forward to it basically every week and enjoyed a lot of the chatter and speculation for future episodes, etc.
To bring it back to superhuman, I enjoyed it to the point where I'm thinking about trying something similar myself. Since the update will take so long to do, I've thought about releasing it in weekly, or bi-weekly releases. Maybe 3-4. The reason being, it will grant me a bit of leeway, in which I can release the game in several bursts allowing me to continue working on the next chapter and the next, etc. Kind of like a buffer zone for me to fix a bunch of shit, work on a bunch of shit, improve a bunch of shit, all while the update is still releasing and getting content out for you guys. Each "episode" will centered around a big fight and story chapter, since there's gonna be quite a lot happening in the next update. Another reason I've been thinking about it is because I really like the idea of having a bit of my own community discussion, speculation and such happening about my new episodes. I think it'd be a fun thing for the community and add some momentum to the game. Was thinking either I release it every week on the Saturday or something, or if I did it bi-weekly, release it it one week, the next week giving a big preview shot of the next fight, then the release the week after.
Another reason I'm interested in doing it, if I'm being real, is because there's only so many devlogs and character drawings I can give you over that period of time before I'm basically just leaving the patreon blank for weeks or months at a time, I don't even know what devs with longer update cycles do. What do they do to pad out that time? Someone let me know in the comments.
All that said, don't take this as confirmation I'm actually doing this, because there are some issues. One being what I do with the actual 1.0 and art remake. Do I release it as a separate stand alone patch? Do I release it with the actual end of the story? With an alternate pathway/story route to getting to the end? There's probably gonna be a few dead ends coming with the story's end, along with a regular end and a true end, I could save some regular ends and the route to the true end for it. Then there's also the matter of the sex scenes, I'll have to decide how many I'm gonna release in each episode, etc.
So yeah, there's a lot for me to think about and consider, whether I do this or some other form of release. Let your opinions be known in the comments, maybe they'll inform my decision, maybe not, but it'll at least give me something to think about.
Anyway, see you next week.
Huh... He's talking about RELEASING the update, right? I mean, he will still prepare them for some months and then partially release it for a few weeks, to promote engagement and make time to correct them and work on the next big update. Then I would prefer bi-weekly for more theory crafting, it's fun, and it would leave us with 2 months less of "void".
Almost 10 months what eternum takes these days anything from 7-10 months probably.
And last update of eternum was a year ago.it's dev time has only increased but I am assuming he meant when it used to be 7-10 months. Now eternum already reached Being a dik dev time while the renders are around 1/3rd of what being a dik has in that same dev time.
How much bigger an update would need to be so the wait feels worth it?. I'm barely scraping by, and it could be 1-4 months more.
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I’d rather he decided not to do that. I prefer waiting for the full 1.0 instead of getting it in chunks. My reason is that it would make the 1.0 come faster and feel more satisfying.
It's like choosing between waiting to binge the whole season or giggling and pushing refresh like a maniac every weekend.

What the heck are you talking about? Eternum isn't that made by once in a life time Dev. I am talking about superhuman update
read the devlog, it's on the previous page

That's why Eternum was mentioned
