Honestly I think the Yuren fight was only that easy because the real Yuren wasn't in control, but The Black Mouth. And as someone possessing another, he doesn't have mastery of Yuren's forms. Black Mouth says something among the lines of "so many forms to learn, to try" so that's pretty self-explanatory. The only time Yuren was in control was when he switched to his Uranium form.

I'm not saying he would've won if he was the one in control, but if we ever have a rematch between the two I expect the MC to have a lot more trouble beating him. Yuren (potentionally) has 118 forms to use after all.
I don't think that's true, the fight seemed easy because it was used as a means to showcase the MC's increased skill and if you mention about your tails, he says it was something he was on the look out for so information carried through to all forms.

All the keys moment in it where not about him lording his power level, it was about him using his experience, beating the other shapeshifter with the right tool.

Ice he powered through it at high speed.

When his opponent went ethereal he dispersed it.

Durability was finding the right balance of strength and speed.

When his opponent went radioactive he covered himself in flesh that negated it and he only gets a decisive win if he's smart enough to keep his cards to his chest.

Its very possible Yuren could have had more power, he kept getting back after all those hits but was ultimately outskilled.

Am I missing something? Is that not Zorad's point? That MC won because the Black Mouth isn't a shapeshifter, and so the MC was significantly more experienced with fighting as a shapeshifter?

On the other hand, Black Mouth was probably the reason memory powers didn't work on him. There is good chance that without that MC would be able to predict Yuren's actions much easier and distract him when needed

I'd guess Yuren has fewer than 118 powers, even if he can turn into 118 elements. A lot of elements are going to have similar enough properties to other elements that shifting between them will be more variations on a power than a whole new one. Like, magnesium and phosphorus would both give fire attacks, but magnesium would be hotter while phosphorus's flames would stick to the target. Also, there are going to be elements that just don't have combat applications. Lutetium can convert X-rays into visible light, that being useful in a fight would be very uncommon.

But nothing about him highlighted inexperience, when fighting an inexperienced opponent like Cole the MC calls it out, in fact the MC is impressed with his skills remarking how he hopes he can learn from him at least twice.

I really don't think Weird was trying to short change the MC with an "he only won because his opponent was handicapped". I think it really was a showcase of abilities.

Yeah there probably would be a bunch of overlap. A lot of his forms would also just be straight superior to others.

Recently decided to give this one a shot, loving the story even if the art is not what I'm usually a big fan of... but day 47 at the beach... and I honestly don't know who I despise more... Ella or Christie. I'm guessing Ella is some sort of double agent with her own agenda and a really fucked up moral compass, not one who you can totally trust... meanwhile, Christie is just an unlike bitch and slut, unlike Tess, who's just a slut and possibly a whore.

I honestly never thought the one girl I would fall for completely is Alice. Sure, she is hard to read until she allows the MC to get to know her, but she is by far my favorite, other than adorable Mia. I want to like Jess, and I assume we're playing the long game with her, just need to get Jared out of the way, and I do like Angelina, but something is definitely off with her. Other than that, not much of a really great selection of LIs for the harem. Physically, they are stacked and look good/great, but they definitely have difficult/frustrating personalities.

Seems like you're at the beginning of the story, there will naturally be character development for many of the characters.

I didn't say that. My argument was that the fight could have been more difficult if Yuren was in control from the beginning. Maybe he would be more flexible and creative with his powers, forcing the MC to rely on more complex strategies than "go big, go fast, go strong". The MC would still win at the end of the day since, as you said, the purpose of the scene was to make the MC look strong after his time in the Monster World.

Buuut as Hammyak said above and I had forgotten, Yuren was also shielded from the Memory powers thanks to Black Mouth, so maybe that would "uneven" things right back and make the fight a squash anyway.
