Any reasons or theories why some people change appearance when they gain power or evolve?

MC becomes his ideal body. Makes sense because he's a shapeshifter
Jake changes (Its not him changing people's perception, that was to make people think he always looked like that)
Alice doesn't change (Besides you know)
Michael, Met, Tiffany, Derryl all remain the same

Demi has 4th wall breaking powers to be a femboy (They get a pass). Their power is a meta joke of being liked no matter what
Angelina remains the same (Her powers being the cause)
The twins for the most part don't change? Hard to tell if it's just a result of their situation

That assassin chick becomes younger
Cole has a Toshiro from bleach transformation
Shen as well

My best idea is that they weren't happy with how they looked. Cole wanted to bang Ella, so he changed his appearance especially when he saw Shen's evolution, jealousy and envy.

Alice, Michael, Met, Tiffinay, Derryl are okay with their current bodies. Some practical reason for the first 3 being they're used to fighting as is.

Of course the practical reason being not needing to draw new sprites
I believe the reason for this is that the ascension is supposed to bring you to the physical apex of your body and fix any physical defects. Michael, Met, Alice, and to a certain degree Tiffany dont change much because of their drug regimens and stuff growing up ensuring they are largely near their physical apex already. Angelina is a weird case since she wasnt supposed to be a superhuman but rather prey for the monster that turned her and she was kinda changed as a result but not wholly.

Superhumans who ascend as kids like Cole have aspects of their physical development tied to their growth as superhumans, thats why Shen and Cole look older as they evolve.
Deryl is the odd one but he does actually get significantly more muscular and lean as a superhuman (new art vs old art).

I imagine for people like Nathan and Rina the ascension makes them younger to get them to their physical apexes. Jake also clearly gets to his physical ideal as well.

Might have to do with Superhuman's cells maturing and subsequently deteriorating at a much slower pace at the initial levels. And not deteriorate at all at the upper ones meaning they stop aging entirely like Malik, Nxy, Bern and prolly all level 5.

So Michael, Met, Tiffany all retain the appearance of adults since they ascended when their bodies have reached their peak maturity and fitness.
Rina for example seemed to become younger with her ascension, as if her evolution turned the clock back for her body.
And Cole, Shen, Briar, Zara and Charlie remain as they are until their 4th since their cells do not age. At which point their evolutions do the maturing for them.

You become the healthiest possible version of yourself, best suited to handle the physical aspect of being a superhuman.

The MC was in a horrible accident that could have stunted his growth and Jake was heavily overweight. We know the MC's appearance is not caused by his transformation as he defaults to it when he is rendered powerless.

Most of the other main cast are already healthy. You then have Cole, maybe his new look is what he would have ended up as if he had been raised in a healthy environment since birth.

Can we talk about how WEAK Memory powers is? It's to a point that I think Memory without Body is almost useless.
To my understanding, they are weak because they are not suited for combat, more focused on support and utility. I mean, their abilities can be absolutely broken on paper, like rewriting history, sending someone into oblivion, undoing any damage, gathering and sharing information, and of course boosting superhuman growth and copying/teaching others' techniques, but these have little to no effect on those stronger than or even equal to the the user, unless they have an exploitable weakness (like a trauma or stupidity), or they willfully subject themselves, meaning they en up relying on psycological warfare and hope, so they are better at the background.

Regarding the MC, his memory powers have increased his growth, helped him with faster and more accurate shape shifting, distracting/taunting Cole and so on, but yeah, he is only able to fully utilize them because of his physical powers, there is no use of increasing his Power tenfold to end up at 10 of a hundred needed. He could become a False Hydra or my best friend Tsukishima, but only when paired with another path, and even then they would work on the weaker targets.

A question about these powers, could the MC potentially revert monsterfication? Or would this be prevented by the same ethereal reason he can't copy powers with shapeshifting? (I believe Xanthe Sr. mentioned a while back that the MC could copy a monster's physique but not their powers due to the ethereal energies they use).

The electrical eel huh? Damn if only it was that simple, its probably not. His body not being able to handle current is a result of a mutation passed down to him by his mum, so he would probably have to 'overcome' this mutation like Syla did during the final seconds of her life
About our MC's weakness to lightning. What I gathered during Syla's fight with Indra is that it's psycological, not physical, meaning the Silats explode due to some sort of generational trauma, just searched on the wiki, its a traumatic event that translated into a physical reaction, and was transmited to her kin. Syla managed to overcome this by steeling herself and fully focusing on saving her family, so the MC could use this memory and lots of mental training to solve his problem, no physical modification can help.

And about superhuman aging. Apparently age seems to limit physical growth, I guess that if you are transformed at 9yo, you get a peak 9yo body, same with the teens, while if you are transformed at 86 yo, you would get a peak 20-30s yo body, because it would be the ideal one. Their body changes with evolution, so far I think we only have the orphans as examples, as they were infected when they were kids, I guess if the 9yo evolved at 12, he would transform accordingly. Still, I would like to ask about the lv5s, do you guys think they can de/age at will?

My theory about this is pretty simple and intuitive: when you receive the power of a higher being, whether you want it or not, you’re becoming more “worthy,” closer to that gift. That’s why Jake changed, he got thinner and carried himself with more presence after becoming a superhuman. It’s like the power itself reshapes the vessel to make it more fitting to house it, and this process goes through the individual’s mind, since the modifications naturally depend on the species.

I’d say the change is not just physical but also mental. In Jake’s case, it made him more confident than before, among other examples. (At level 1 it’s not so noticeable, but from his level 2 onward it became much clearer.)

In Michael’s and Alice’s case, and others too, they don’t perceive weaknesses in terms of their bodies’ appearance. Their minds are probably more focused on other aspects of themselves that could shift or improve in later evolutions.

On the topic of Jake. His appearance change was heavily dictated by his mental health. He wanted to be hot and not be remembered as fat Jake. His powers not working on that Jock because he didn't think he could. Ella fed him praise which made him want to earn her recognition (until he mind fucks the wrong person thanks to her) then finds a goal to steer his powers towards.

Superpowers are inherently selfish. Your mental fortitude changing what direction your powers go. (Though, these are words from Ella, who you should trust only when it benefits her) She wanted Jake to be strong, so I could see her not wanting him to become someone like Briar, who relies on others.

The other points are valid, where it could be corruption by your monster to make you more suitable and peak "you"

Yeah it's weak. I think it should have been mind. Body and mind. Mind contains memory. I think weirdworld made it memory instead because mind and body together is too op. Of course order would still be more op but nobody has it

Possibly, but I don't think there's any evidence of this aside from Jake, and his changes can be explained by other things.

As a level 1 he becomes more confident because his appearance, which he was very insecure about, changes drastically. He's not "fat boy" anymore.
As a level 2, his resolve strengthens significantly because he now has something to fight for - fixing his mistake and saving Mia.

Memory isn't just your memories, it's also your DNA. It makes sense that Memory allows him to gain templates of other living organisms, while the same can't be said about "Mind".
Also, what would your theoretical "Mind" be capable of that Memory isn't?

On the topic of appereance. I've been thinking about the age difference of some of the superhumans we know, as some look older than others. This may be purely to avoid confusing the readers, or help with the character's image, but I believe that their mindset might influence their appereance, as their new form should be one they are comfortable with. Keep in mind that the MC didn't loose his facial scars, even though he could, this is probably because he considers them part of him. And lastly, if I remember correctly, superhumans are tools made with a purpose, be it a chore or a quest, so it's most convenient for them to be at their best physical condition possible for it's completion, any other changes would be ether aesthetical or caused by a deep trauma.

In the *Claudia memory exploration scene. At the end she comments that MC was back in his teen body if you have 'fun' with her. Meaning that they do age, either from mental view or time passing.

Derryl looks cool af in that, but he's semi monster so it doesn't count

You're confusing the sisters. Claudia is the one who remarks about MC looking like his younger self during her dream wedding. Tiffany's dream was about light and angels and shiz.

Also, I'll tack on that Tiffany's tits actually did grow a bit during her ascension and she admits as much after she and MC have their simulation battle. Probably because of breast envy, courtesy of Alice.

Are you referring to Claudia's wedding dream? If so, I agree he looks awesome in that one, bet he has made quite a few modifications to his body by that point, cyberpunk style. Wasn't Claudia a spawn of time? Could this be consider a vision of a possible future?

(kinda cute that she is already planning the wedding, or she could just be dealing with a traumatic experience)

I always believed that was just a dream born of Claudia's crush on the Mc rather than a actual timeline, same as the other memorie exploration scenes.

I think people just theorize that was a possible timeline due to Claudia being a spawn of Time.
But that's not true, Deus simply transported the Mc to Claudia's dream because he somehow knew she has and would inherite traits of Time, and the Mc needed that connection. So it was either her or Zack.

But I don't think it was a actual timeline.

I wouldn't dismiss the possibility. Stephen is missing a hand in that dream, and I don't think he'd lost it at that point.

I think Syla briefly mentioned that in the memory dream, that the Mc's physical growth was a result of his powers bringing out what was already inside him. I believe that was referring to his unfulfilled genetic potential. Combine that with the idea people have been floating around, about how becoming superhuman brings you to your peak physical state, then I think I have an explanation for the reasons why superhumans look different. First, people like Alice, Micheal, and Met all grew up with parents who gave them all kinds of growth enhancing serums, including that Tanos experimental serum, that unlocked their hidden potential, which was then cultivated to their physical peak from continuous training from childhood and battlefield experience. Which is why they experienced no physical growth.

Tiffany said her breast grew a little bigger, so she did experience some physical growth even if it was minor. Michael said Dexter said his daughters were well trained, so if you combine that with a strict diet, because I feel that's something Dexter would do, and very good genetics, it will explain why Tiffany didn't change much.

In the case of Nathan and Rina, the two of them worked in professions where pushing their bodies to the limit increased their chances of living. So, if we assume that they didn't have any hidden genetic potential, then their natural peak would be when they were a solider and assassin before their crippling injuries.

Now when it comes to Ella's kids since they turned very young, Xanthe mentioned children have trouble enduring their ascension and adjusting to their powers, so I think their physical growth was put off until they were able to gain a harmony of body and mind with their powers included in the mix. I think the fact that they basically become young adults at the limit breaker stage, which involves breaking the limits, and restriction on their powers, showcases that they will go through more pronounced physical growth, because they have completely acclimated to their powers and unlocked their potential up to that point.

Now in the case of the Jake, he was so overweight that I wouldn't be surprised if he had health problems before becoming a superhuman. I don't know it that was a genetic issue or because he never took care of his health, but it doesn't change the fact he looked he was very far from the average physical ability for people his age, much less his peak potential. Which explains his drastic changes.

Finally, in the case of the Mc, before Syla dragged him into the Otherworld, he was standing in front of Indra, as the fucker saturated the room to the brim in his hostile monster energy to the point even level 3 was paralyzed by the memory, who knows if that had any negative effect on his young body. Not to mention, that Syla modified his memories during the most traumatic moment of his life up to that. Even in ordinary humans the mind can cause physical effects on the body with extreme enough circumstances. Or maybe the Mc had to pay a price for hosting the eye as a human, there's a lot of reasons why the mc went through such massive changes when he became a superhuman.

Hey, another train of thought, Syla was a merefolk before turning into a monster, the Silat, right? Thats why the MC has Atlantis citizenship. And the serum M.O.O.N developed partialy reverts the monsterfication. If i got this right, then why didn't she turn back into a meremaid after recieving said serum? Did she get another one after that turned her into an earthling, perhaps she altered herself and the MC?

Sea humans weren't mermaids, they had legs. And we dont know anything about what specifically Xante was treating her with only that it should work until Stephen died of old age.

Yo, how's it been going?

For me it's been mostly fine. Got some new character previews ready to come out, so I'll be releasing them over the next couple weeks.

But anyway, on to the topic at hand. When's the next update coming out? Probably could've guessed but I want it done before the end of september, prob gonna end up really close to the end or the first week of october. I'm planning to go visit my family in Oct though since I haven't seen them all year, so I'm pushing for the end of Sep. I've heard people asking, is this next one gonna be the last? No, I've got a bit more left in the tank before we get to 1.0, though I'm still working on that while also working on this update, which is why updates lately have been sitting around a 3 month release schedule more lately, since 1.0 is gonna be a lot of effort.

Anyway, that's it, thanks for reading. I'll see you guys next week.

My two cents on this:

I don't think the MC's Physical Growth/Changes were extraordinary in the slightest.

The MC was a Short and Skinny little fucker. When he became a Superhuman, his New Default Body was this Ridiculous Tall, Muscular, and Monster Cocked Man now. And while it's true that Superhuman Transformations seem to bring out the Peak Physical/Fertile Condition of a Human, I don't think the MC's was any more Drastic than someone like Jake.

I agree with the Alice, Michael, and Tiffany though. Their Growth/Change (Physically Speaking), was next to NOTHING, even with Further Evolutions (Michael MAYBE got a bit Bulker and Taller???). As opposed to Jake who Noticeably got even better between Evolution 1 and Evolution 2. This is obviously due to the Serum they were given GROWING UP (Key Word), as we know Ella's Kids, or rather, Humans in General (Like Charlie) who are Transformed into Superhumans at a Young Age (Like Charlie) have a Ridiculous Growth Spurt not only Physically, but in their Abilities as well.

It's strange, because the MC SHOULD have every Characteristic to go with being a Prodigy or Outlier in the Superhuman field, but if you look at the Alternatives, he's really nothing Special so far.
-Henri is Cracked, with an Apparent God Progenitor, and got to Level 5 in like a Week.
-Several Superhumans in H.E.R.O. have reached Level 3 and 4, despite it apparently being 'Rare'.
-Jake and Others had FARRR more Potential on Ella's List, be it from Compatibility, Overall Potential, or whatever than the MC.
-Bernhardt and Malik despite not really having a God Tier Power have all reached the Pinnacle of Level 5, so much so that a Chosen who can mop up 2 Level 5s at once can't even scratch them.
-Jared became a Superhuman like what? A Month ago? And was probably Babied without Combat Experience the entire time and STILL got to Level 4...
-Alice, Deryl, Michael have all been keeping up, even Amber and Liz got a cracked ass Ability.
-The S.I.N Twins are Ridiculous.

The list just goes on, there are plenty of Regular People that are just Significantly better than him, with HALF the Actual Experience and Near-Death Scenarios. And yet again; the MC still has all the hallmarks of being an Outlier such as:
-Getting Infected by 2 Twin Apostles, and Retaining Both Traits Simultaneously.
-Being Born from a Natural Monster Mother at the CHOSEN Level, with the Human Adaptability of his Human Father. So he's Basically Already had Monster DNA (Like the Serum's Injected into the Rich Kids), since Birth.
-Has had the Eye apparently since before even the Syla/Indra Event, according to it at least, it's ALWAYS been with us, just Dormant until we became a Superhuman.

Those are all, so far, Unique Factors that sets him apart from the Average Human, hell, even the Entire Cast so far, and yet - we have nothing to show for it. None of it has made a difference compared to the Lucky Few in the Superhuman World.

Anyway, I know I diverged from the Main Point, but this kind of Topic always drives me back to what Jake asked us on the Beach all those Years ago; "Do you think you're special?" And honestly? No, not right now, I don't think we're any different from the Countless Superhumans in the World. Which is a damn shame, because by every right, we should be. Take away the Reputation of being the Mascot H.E.R.O./Vigilante of the World and, what are we?
