This is always a problem with your user folder in one way or another. It's not something caused by Supermodel or anything I can fix directly for you. Somehow, the game isn't allowed to save to your user folder. Maybe you already have a persistent file in a Supermodel folder there that is corrupt or your user isn't allowed to write to (this could potentially happen if you copy your user folder from a previous install or computer).

There was a problem in the first release of this game where it buffered up persistent saves until you quit the game normally, which caused the save to fail if you force-quit the game with Alt-F4 or the task manager (or it crashed). This was fixed in Update 1.

The file you're looking for is in C:\Users\*username*\ AppData\Roaming\RenPy\Supermodel-1615290475\. It's called "persistent". Try renaming it if it's there. If it's not there, you have bigger problems.

Also, (and this is just me randomly brainstorming) make sure you didn't extract the game to some part of your computer you have limited access to, such as your Program Files folder. Ren'Py games should never be extracted to any of the folders Windows creates for you.

Finally, there will typically be a copy of your save folder inside the extracted folder. You can check if anything has been saved there, and if it has, try copying it to the game folder I listed above (but make a backup first). I wouldn't exactly call this a solution since it wouldn't fix the underlying issue on your system, but it might possibly be able to recover your lost save.

I'm at the mercy of Ren'Py and your computer here. There's not much else I can do.

I gave my AppData\Roaming\RenPy Folder full writing rights, deleted the old Supermodel-1615290475 folder, made a clean new install of the game and gave the Supermodel.exe file admin rights, voila now it runs perfect.
When i try to start it without admin rights, no saves.
I have over 100 Renpy Games on my PC, and this is the only one that needs admin rights to get access to load the saves.
So i think something is still not right with the save system.
Till it is fixed, i can live with the workaround to start it as Admin.

There is nothing unique about Supermodel's save system. It uses Ren'Py's save handling, nothing more. The only difference from other Ren'Py games is that Supermodel doesn't use regular save files, instead only relying on the persistent file (which your other games also use, whether deliberately or not).

That you need to use elevated admin rights is actually proof of the opposite of what you say. The only reason you need to do this is because the folder you're trying to save to is protected by Windows, and that's not something I have the power to do. You are doing something wrong in how your system is set up, most likely related to one of the things I mentioned in my previous post.

Let me repeat the important part here, just to make it clear: Supermodel cannot do the thing you accuse it of. It's not in my power as a Ren'Py developer. You are the only one who could have set up this situation, probably inadvertently.

I gave the actual User (the one with limited rights) who I use to play full permission to access appdata,
my OS is Windows 11 Pro 64 Bit.

What get me confused is that every other game (I have all Games in 1 Folder with subfolders for each Game)
don't need Admin rights to load saves. I made nothing different in installing the game compared to all other Renpy Games.

See, this is the biggest clue that something is inherently wrong. The user folder is YOUR user folder, or at least it's supposed to be. You should never have to elevate yourself to access your own user folder; that goes against the entire principle of the thing. Nor should you ever have to tell Windows to give you more access to your user folder. You are implicitly supposed to already have it. Your user folder is supposed to be the one, singular part of your file system that you have near unlimited access to. The question then becomes: why don't you?

I can tell you one thing: the answer to that question doesn't directly involve Supermodel. If you don't have access to your user folder, Supermodel doesn't either, and it certainly can't change that in either direction. That's why you noticing different behavior between Ren'Py games doesn't mean there's something wrong with Supermodel. I have a sneaking suspicion that you're seeing issues in those games too, but you fail to notice them. This would manifest in symptoms like game preferences not saving across sessions or an inability to overwrite existing save games, but saving in a new slot would work.

I can't tell you what's wrong with your Windows user, but something is clearly not right. How do you fix it? I haven't the faintest idea. Try troubleshooting with some AI assistance, perhaps, or check my list of potential causes from my first reply to you.

well other games save saves to \*game*\game\saves -folder while this saves only under appdata\renpy.

hard to say what's wrong on your computer but i'd start with right clicking user folder and taking ownership.

You need to be careful what you block. Make sure it is a real deal breaker for you. I normally don't fuck with the kinetic novel tag, but I would if the story were good enough.

Coming up with the name was quite the journey, let me tell you. Long Live the Princess was a horrible name for my previous game, and anyone who says otherwise these days is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. I wanted to avoid that with this game and spent a lot of time ruminating on what to call it. I wanted the name to be short, catchy, and convey what the game was about, but I couldn't quite figure it out.

For the longest time, the working title was "Superstar" (I still have resource folders using that name), until I eventually realized that "Supermodel" was absolutely perfect for what I was making in every way. It's short, memorable, catchy, and has a double meaning where both meanings hint at the game's theme. You have no idea how pleased I was when I eventually figured it out.

The downside of that title was that it was also kind of generic in a way that would make it hard to search for online, so it needed a subtitle. "Defenders of Desire" was easier to come up with than "Supermodel" for reasons I can't get into because of spoilers, but the subtitle will start to make perfect sense as the story progresses.

This is a minor revision to the seventh update for Supermodel: Defenders of Desire. Its only new feature is an extensive in-game database containing vast amounts of lore for the story, as well as rules and guides for the card game.

I didn't see any reason to hold this feature back for Update 8, so you're getting a mini-update instead. This doesn't make Update 7 available to free users. It's a bonus update for those who support the game's development while we wait for the next story update.

You can access the database from both the main menu and the game menu. At first, it only contains the card game rules, but lore entries will be added and updated as you play through the story. For those of you who have already played all or part of the story, the database entries you would have unlocked will be automatically unlocked for you when you start the game, so you won't be forced to replay anything.

The post above may give the impression that this mini-update is very dry, but that's not entirely the case. There are plenty of lore entries that now unlock as you progress through the story, and these greatly expand upon the lore of the setting. One of the problems of writing an efficient narrative is that you can't really stop for exposition unless it's critical to the plot, so the new database allows me to go into parts of the setting that otherwise would have been left hinted at, at best.

This is something I've wanted to create for this game since before I even wrote the first version. For those of you who might have played any of the Science Adventure games (like Steins;Gate), the database here works much the same way as it does in those games.
