Your impression of the side girls is different than mine.Jeez, anyone notice almost all the side girls trauma victims with trust issues?
I saw people complaining about how slow this game is, which believe it or not I was actually kinda excited for. But playing it I have to say this is the first time I've genuinely considered if the harem juice is worth the melodrama squeeze. They're all just so exhausting. I'm constantly needing to take breaks from their sob stories.
Maybe the real problem here isn't just that the game is too slow but more that you're playing through many many variations of the same draining character trope. There is better ways to write a story arc than just constantly rehabilitating damaged chicks.
Exactly like what I said, small variations of the same trope. Their trauma and type of trust issues are all slightly different. But otherwise, you're going through the exact same story beats with the same type of socially shut off scarred character.Your impression of the side girls is different than mine.
Sure - some have trust issues but, IMO, the reasons for those issues are different across the women in the story, much like RL.
Laura is the legal guardian for a child, and she Has to take that into account when she chooses whether or not to build a relationship with a guy.
Jane has a female friend who is both jealous and undependable but she helped her survive a nasty upbringing, so she is, at least initially, torn about what to do while slowly allowing the MC into her life.
Sydney has an abusive family member that she is trying to escape.
I see the back stories of each of the side LIs as giving a reason for them to be interested in a guy like the MC (and we have a number who are still rated as 'level 1' - so only the very beginning of their stories have been told so far).
I'm confused. Are you suggesting that non-traumatized women don't want relationships? Or that no woman even remotely approaching well-adjusted would ever want to date MC specifically because he's a loser? Cause the latter can be fixed. What story is there to tell regarding the women who already have the relationships they want or are at the places in their lives where they are pursuing their dreams and are happy with their choices?
Why would the women I just described be interested in a meaningful romantic relationship with a guy like the MC given that they are already happy with their lives?
Again - Your impression of the side girls is different than mine.Exactly like what I said, small variations of the same trope. Their trauma and type of trust issues are all slightly different. But otherwise, you're going through the exact same story beats with the same type of socially shut off scarred character.

There's obviously plenty of other types of stories other than being their shoulder to cry on baggage handler. They don't all need to be deeply disturbed from a long dark past of abuse/death that you have to spend the entire game nursing them back from. The game could instead focus on the actual relationship. Give them more dynamic personalities as to make overcoming even day to day obstacles worthwhile. Tone the melodrama way down as to give levity room to breathe.
E.g. Take Laura. Instead of having her story revolve entirely around a grief stricken mute little girl for whom she's martyring herself for, maybe make the adopted daughter somewhat normal/upbeat? You can keep the character but shift Laura's story more on getting the business off the ground with this quirky daughter and persistent new guy in her life. The daughter could have lost her real mother as a toddler, an ordeal mostly just for Laura. But one that she's not stuck on. One that has already payed some happiness dividends as to not completely erode her mental health. This gives Laura room to develop a personality of her own. And allows MC to engage with both without all the constant tiptoeing, comforting and boohooing.
Point being pretty girls or not, even in real life people are notoriously unfond of dating those with overwhelming baggage. So why make the game focus entirely around rehabilitating multiple variations of this type of person?

I'm sorry but frankly I don't think there was any persons here so to speak. I think you've fallen for the trap of conflating trauma with characterization and overcoming it with character development. In reality, a person is more than just one sad event that shaped their life. And having their entire existence gravitate around one crippling problem does not make for a more meaningful story nor deeper romance. It just makes for constant toxic scenarios that suffocates both those things.Your posts and incredibly kind review (Thank you for that, really.) say more about you than about my game.
"even in real life people are notoriously unfond of dating those with overwhelming baggage"
You only look at the drama and see that as hindrance where most players see the person.
You think about drama as something to be solved when it's simply something people live with.
You only see the drama and not the happiness that might follow.
Because I think you can ask everyone who ever dated someone who has a lot of baggage.
Those are usually the most meaningful relationships.
Simple because those are the people that don't take anything for granted, especially not happiness.
There is a lot of drama in Sweet Affection, yes.
But that is not what my game is about.
It is about all the characters finding their happiness in their own way.
Not casting aside their pain but embracing it and making it a part of them.
Drama is only part of the journey.
However, I can understand that that is hard to see, at this moment.
All the routes are unfinished so you can not see that happy ending just yet.
As for this line.
" But it certainly doesn't work for long drawn out erotic VNs. "
Then it's a very good thing I've been saying for years now that Sweet Affection is not a porn game.
That it's about the story and the journey of all the characters, that H-Content is simply a part of that journey.
Thank you for your messages and I hope you find something else to enjoy on this website.
It's stuff like this that keep me coming back to this thread, despite the fact that my interest in this game has waned completely. Going full-on keyboard psychoanalyst on a guy who was making an actual point and providing arguments for his point of view is just, man, I don't think I can begin to describe it. Someone who is confident in what they're creating doesn't feel the need to personally insult and mock people who dared leave a bad review, yet you fall for this so easily I'm starting to think you foam at the mouth every time another 1 star review gets added.Your posts and incredibly kind review (Thank you for that, really.) say more about you than about my game.
"even in real life people are notoriously unfond of dating those with overwhelming baggage"
"Drama is not what the game is about. But everyone that has ever been in a relationship with such a person knows that the heaviest baggage uplifts people into the most meaningful relationships. That's why I put so many similarly trauma-focused characters in my game. Specifically to provide the player with the large amount of crucial relationship fuel we call drama. Which is but a small irrelevant part of the game. And the rest of your message is about as contradictory as it gets, if I had to guess I'd say you don't have the slightest clue what you are doing, like the meme says, "Random Bullshit go!" First you say the games has a lot of drama, followed up with saying "that's not what this game is about", instead the game is about the journey. So far so good but oh what's this? " Drama is only part of the journey." Oh and the game isn't about H content but that's also part of the journey which means, you guessed it, the game is about the drama AND the H-content and whatever other word you're going to fixate on and repeat over and over again until Semantic satiation kicks in and we're all missing a few brain cells from trying to understand what on earth your point is.
And the icing on the cake is when you mention how this is all "hard to see" because the routes are unfinished, so it is NOT just about the journey but it's about the ending as well. In your attempt to counter someone's rather constructive criticisms, you made yourself look like a babbling fool who can't grasp the actual meaning behind the words he's using. If anything, Tehemai's reply to you in the previous post is far too forgiving and I applaud him for his restraint. Unlike him, I hope you keep this little crusade of yours going, throwing fits and attacking people almost completely unprovoked, it's actually some of the best entertainment this site has to offer.

I won't reply to the rest of your message as it is inconsequential at best, if not asinine and verbose, undeserving of trying to decipher.First - Congrats on making your first post here on the SA thread... using an almost 7 year old user id no less...
Cracking the seal on one of those alt id's must have come after quite the internal discussion...
Where to use your very first comment with this alt id created so long ago???
'It's stuff like this that keep me coming back to this thread' - and commenting with different user id's as well!
You and the other user id - same person or different persons - doesn't really matter does it, can go on and on about how SA should change, while ignoring the perspectives of others because they don't match your own.
First I was a porn-focused meanie and now I'm someone else's alt? And where did I even ask the dev for anything? I just went on the discussion thread of a game I was playing to see if anyone else experienced the same issues with the game's writing. Then a day or two later after finishing my playthrough, I wrote a final review and moved onto another game.First - Congrats on making your first post here on the SA thread... using an almost 7 year old user id no less...

As has been said now, many times, what you both are asking for is Not something $ supporters are asking for.
It is fine to have your own opinion and desires but expecting a story that is already about 6.5 years into the journey to ignore the asks of the $ supporters and, instead - adapt to your desires/address your unusual critiques is simply an act of entitlement.
I understand - this is not unusual on this forum.
